I've been to brussels - it's great, people are not too friendly but the place is impacable, has nice food, tons of night stuff to do and it's overall a really wonderful city, it has that really old europe feel but with the technology of today. besides that I have also been to Paris and lived in London for over a year.
May 24, 200915 yr Author Of those you've listed I've been to London, Paris, Salzburg, Alps, Venice, Florence, Rome, Greek Isles, and Athens. I hope to go to Brussels soon when I go on my beer tour. What kind of information do you want? Austria/Alps are gorgeous. Do you ski? One recommendation I would make is that I would set aside at least 3 days to visit just Rome itself. There is a lot to see there and if you give yourself less time you will feel dissatisfied. I personally love the Greek Isles. Perhaps some of the nicest beaches in the world and there really isn't any humidity. I am going with a few friends for 3 weeks so I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice on where to go and what to do. Hopefully it all works out and I am able to go.
May 24, 200915 yr Author Awww no Scotland I want to go to Scotland because I am Scottish . Maybe next time I go to Europe I willl go to Scotland.

A few weeks ago I had to look up stuff on Belgrade and Kotor and wikipedia was very informative as far as history, general information and main attractions. I would start off looking in there.

Yeh sure you are....Just because you once ate haggis doesn't make you Scottish lol, Haggis is not my style. I do have a Scottish last name which is a secret. I also go to Scottish Highland games (North Carolina), and my dad has a kilt. Okay, I did not type that.

I have never been to a Highland Games and I have only worn a kilt about 3 times so maybe I'm the one lacking in Scottishness.... But if you are into things like pictureque views and stunning countrysides then Scotland is a great place to visit. And if you golf it's even better
May 26, 200915 yr Awww no Scotland I want to go to Scotland because I am Scottish . Maybe next time I go to Europe I willl go to Scotland. Why would anyone in their right mind go to Scotland? It's freezing, everyone is drunk and you can't understand a word anyone is saying even though they're speaking "English"...

May 29, 200915 yr There's a beautiful cathedral in Cologne. Are you going to Munich.. lots of good beer halls. I hear Korfu is nice in the Greek Isles.
May 29, 200915 yr Next year I am planning on going to Europe. I will go to London, Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Rhine Valley, Bavaria, Salzburg, Alps, Venice, Florence, Rome, Greek Isles and Athens. I have traveled to London, Paris and Rome but not the other places... does anyone know any info on the other places? Have you traveled to any of them? I have been to London, Venice, Rome, and Athens. Since you've been to Rome and London... I can obviously skip those... though I gotta add that London is one of the nicest places on the Earth. Venice is also really friggin awesome. You've never seen a city like it in your life. Chances are you wont see one ever again unless you plan on returning to Venice. Great food everywhere... the only problem is that Venice is tourist-packed. Walking in the streets there is a mess. It's like Disney World on crack. Whats really cool about Venice is the fact that nothing is obvious. If there is a hotel... convenience store... bookstore... etc. its all secluded. All of the places there are built right into the city. The hotels, etc. are not obvious, so if you are staying in a hotel there chances are it will give you a nice perspective of Venice rather than a "tourist" taste. There are a lot of small things to see in Venice... and I was only there for two days so I can't tell you everything... but obviously the gondola ride would be something you want to do and St. Marks Square would be another. Pizza. Dont forget pizza. Just dont be surprised when you look at the tourist stands and see a lot of vulgar images of the Statue of David. Another really cool thing there to see is the police/fire stations. As you'd imagine... they are actually docks. Under buildings, that is. The waterways ARE the roads there. You are on the sidewalks. Taxis commute on the water. Overall, its primarily a walking city. See things... buy things... eat things... as opposed to other cities like London where there is just so much to do that you cant fit it all in your stay. Very active, yet at the same time very chilled out. Get your walking shoes for Venice... you'll need em. So far as Athens... depending on how you are getting there (is this a cruise? Sounds like you are going on a Medeterrainian cruise and going to the other places by itself?)you will probably take the train into Athens from Pireaus. Athens is your prime example of a tourist location. If you know the right places to look for food there... Greek food is amazing. However, if you end up eating at a location which is a dominant tourist area in Athens... chances are you will think your food was microwaved - because it was. Try to eat at a low key place. Obviously I cant guarantee you will find great food there... but you get me. The most important thing to see there is the Acropolis. It isn't too expensive, though I am pretty sure there is a fee to go up. Again, you want your walking shoes for this. its a long way to the top and you have to walk it up limestone steps. I dont know if it will be the same for you... but when we were there it was HOT... and they try to scam you with 4 euro waters... etc. Just try to bring some water or something to drink if its hot. I didnt go to the Parthenon, but Im sure its pretty cool as well. Another thing - lots of stuff to buy around the markets in Athens. Venice and Athens combined easily had the most stuff. And the most stuff refers to everything you can imagine. Clothes, trinkets, jewelry, etc. Everything a tourist can dream of hah. Anyways, enjoy your travels

I've been to Northern Ireland since most of my family is from there, and most of them still live there. Love that place so much... though not many people do :lol
May 29, 200915 yr I've been to all of the places you mention at least 3 times, some as many as 2 dozen times. There's something worthwhile in all the places. My initial thought is 13 places in 3 weeks is too much. Better to pick a base and use that base for day or overnite trips to some of the other places. That's a travel idea that works in America as well as Europe. I've always had my best vacations when I had a base, a home, to return to. . . Specifically though, I'd avoid Cologne(magnificent cathedral, but otherwise industrial), I'd avoid Greece because Penguino likes it, and I'd add Spain, particularly Barcelona. In fact, I'd use that as my base for fun. For more practical purposes(train connections and distance), use Strasbourg as your base.
May 29, 200915 yr Author Oh, I forgot to mention this in my thread. I am going with a tour guide - this is already a pre-planed tour . Trains, boats, hotels etc are already planned.
