Bonifacio

but the Cog/Boni 2B platoon, Gaby at 3rd is a decent option, but I'd agree with Erick that is a bit of a "last resort" scenario for next season.

Why a last resort? The front office is infatuated with Bonifacio. This would be a great way to get Coghlan out of the outfield and limit Bonifacio's chances against RHP.

Actually, that's exactly why it's last resort, if anything. They're infatuated with Bonifacio...I'm pretty sure they have hopes for him as an everyday player (same with Coghlan, really).

Well it might be a last resort to the franchise. But to us as fans and in the interest of common sense, its best case scenario. The less we see of him vs RHP the better.

He's better against RHP than he is LHP. Platooning him so he only faces LHP is exploiting his weakness. Unless you mean that in that we face a RHP 70% of the time, so we'd be cutting he's playing time by 70%.

Exactly what I mean. And how are you getting that he's better against RHP? I see .272 .292 .347 .639 career vs LHP, .244 .307 .317 .624 vs RHP.

Very small sample size that's exploited because of BABIP. Just like how Dan uggla was horrible against LHP in 2007 even though every other year he has been better against LHP than RHP.

In his MILB career, bonifacio has a .766 OPS and 0.51 BB/k against RHP, .658 and .036 against LHP.

For his MLB career, bonifacio has a .360 BABIP against LHP and a .298 against RHP. Both of these show lower/raise to the .330 range. However the big difference is in BB/k. Agaisnt RHP he has a 0.45 BB/K, showing that he's seeing the ball decent enough. LHP? 0.13. Showing he's not seeing it well at all. 5% K difference between the two. It'll even out as time goes on.

"last resort" can mean a lot of things...

safe to say, it is a very inexpensive and pretty unambitious option for the short term future of the club.

but then again, who knows how those three players (Cog, EB, Gaby) will develop

As time goes on, sure. But right now, he's doing well vs LHP. I don't see why it'd be a big deal to use him primarily against them for the rest of the season.
