July 29, 200916 yr Ian Snell and Jack Wilson to Mariners in exchange for Jeff Clement,Ronny Cedeno, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin, Nathan Adcock
July 29, 200916 yr I like this deal for both teams, maybe less so the Mariners because they lose Clement, but yea
July 29, 200916 yr both teams aren't going anywhere but at least jack wilson will stabilize the defense at SS for the M's. if ian snell can turn it around i'll like this trade much more for the mariners.
July 29, 200916 yr I like this deal for both teams, maybe less so the Mariners because they lose Clement, but yea He's rather overrated imo good but not great and if he can't stay behind the plate his value goes down hard and they have both jojima's albatross contract and that other guy moore? or something plus the other guy who should be a good back up but could push starter territory

The albatross contract you mentioned had a bit to do with him playing some 1B in Seattle. Not saying losing Clement is overly bad, it's just not good to lose a catcher when your production at the position, as a whole, has been horrible. ~.800 OPS Catchers are cool business, bro

July 29, 200916 yr Have there been any indications that he CAN'T stay behind the plate? since he was drafted?lol that's always been the question with him

July 29, 200916 yr Have there been any indications that he CAN'T stay behind the plate? since he was drafted?lol that's always been the question with him That's the question with like... most top catching prospects I can recall... Salty, Mauer, Max Ramirez, etc etc
July 29, 200916 yr the pirates have a nice collection of ready catchers now with doumit, jaramillo, jeff clement, and even diaz is serviceable. so what do they do now? play doumit at C and clement at 1st or keep clement at C and move doumit back to RF. now all they have to do is trade freddy sanchez to the giants or someone and they'll accomplish totally rebuilding their roster

Salty, Mauer, Max Ramirez, etc etc Mauer is a question of size not ability, he's a very good defensive catcher. And yeah, and you look through the history and a lot of them had to change positions. And if salty or max change their position their values go down a lot. I honestly don't understand what you're trying to get at with this lol.
July 29, 200916 yr Ian Snell is terrible. Jack Wilson is serviceable but wasn't going to re-sign with the Pirates. To get Jeff Clement for those two is a GREAT move.
July 29, 200916 yr I honestly don't understand what you're trying to get at with this lol. That the position change argument is hit or miss... and, that they got a good player, regardless. He's likely going to be a high .700, low 800 OPS hitter that can catch. That's valuable, even if they platoon him between 1B and C, specifically because of C part, but even so, Clement is a good player and the Pirates need good players. Notes on the other pitchers: The pitchers the Pirates got: Pribanick 22 @ A, 59-31 K:BB ratio, 1.255 WHIP in ~90 IP (Career) Lorin 22 @ A 148-50 K:BB ratio, 1.121 WHIP in ~ 140 IP (Career) Adcock 21 @ Aadvanced 261-159 K:BB ratio, 1.5 WHIP in ~ 100 IP (Career) BA says Adcock has the best curveball in their system
July 29, 200916 yr the pirates will also pay most of the money owed to wilson and snell for the remainder of this year
July 29, 200916 yr Alvarez, Tabata, Clement, Milledge, LaRoche, McCutchen, Sanchez... There's a lot of potential around Pit now. Now for the pitching... Sanchez might only be a couple years away, wonder how PIT plans to use Clement in the future.
