Posted July 30, 200915 yr 2:03pm: Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse (via Twitter) has a source saying Sherrill's a Dodger, but he is working to confirm the info. http://www.mlbtrader...g-sherrill.html 2:40pm: Yahoo's Gordon Edes says the Orioles are "on the verge of trading Sherrill to the Dodgers for Scott Elbert and Josh Bell." Sherrill, 32, is under team control through 2011. He has a 2.40 ERA with 20 saves in 41.3 innings this year. 2:44pm: MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that the Dodgers acquired George Sherrill for Josh Bell and righty Steve Johnson. I'll post updates as they follow
July 30, 200915 yr I wonder who went to the Orioles. Dodgers have one hell of a farm system right now.
July 30, 200915 yr I wonder how Sherrill will be used? Isn't Broxton a pretty good closer? He's better than that. He's an all star closer. Sherrill will be used in the setup role without a doubt, which some would argue is more important than the closer role.
July 30, 200915 yr Author True, I just looked at Broxton's numbers. I forgot he was an All-Star. BTW, to answer your previous question, I'm guessing that Dodgers may have sent Josh Bell to Baltimore. I think they were pursuing him earlier.
July 30, 200915 yr Josh Bell is having a pretty nice year in AA. With the way the Orioles currently are, he should become the starting 3B as soon as Melvin Mora is gone. If they keep Mora for some reason, Bell can also play SS and 1B. Still, I would've expected at least another C prospect to go along with Bell in a deal for Sherrill.
July 30, 200915 yr Not an "Insider" but came across this tidbit on ESPN mlb rumors. UPDATE: Dodgers and Sherrill not final George Sherrill | Orioles | Interested: Upgrade to Insider today The Dodgers were making a "push" to deal for Orioles closer George Sherrill on Thursday afternoon, a source familiar with the Orioles'... http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors?&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2ffeatures%2frumors Could be old?
