August 20, 200917 yr Is Meyer our best option against LHB? All depends what situation you're talking about. If you're talking about Meyer's statistics...no. But if a hitter like Ryan Howard is up...you'd like a lefty pitching to him. In which case, Meyer > Pinto, so yes (although, not by much, to be fair).
August 20, 200917 yr Who is our best pitcher against LHB? Kiko. Sanches and Donnelly are also better, though probably unsustainably so. Meyer and Pinto have identical .688 OPSes against LHB, and Pinto's comes with a .374 OBP. So if you have to get one out against a LHB, he has to be your guy.
August 20, 200917 yr Who is our best pitcher against LHB? This year it's been Brian Sanches (fwiw). Kiko has been slightly better than the 2 lefties (Meyer, Pinto), as well. Donnelly has also been better, but the sample is obviously not as big. Donnelly's also had a successful career against lefties though.
August 20, 200917 yr If you need to get one lefty out, would you rather use Kiko, Sanches or Meyer Sanches has a .209 BABIP against Lefties and less than 2:1 K:BB ratio.

But that wasn't my point. There have been games (several) where Fredi has used Meyer strictly as a LOOGY, which doesn't make much sense, b/c he's even better against right-handed hitters. It's just wasting a reliever by only using him against lefties. There are LOOGY's, and then there are just good left-handed relievers. Meyer is the latter.
