November 19, 200322 yr With all do respect to those who have voted for Williams, what morons are voting for Williams over Mays? Mays is bar-none the best player ever IMO, and he is for sure better than Williams, I mean OF #25 is ahead of Williams on my list. Mays dominated every possible statistic during his era. He had a very high batting average, finished with 660 HR's, has over 3,000 hits, many SB's, and was an amazing fielder. He could also drive in many runs, and help his team out when they needed a boost.
November 19, 200322 yr Author nobody had a better combination of offense, defense, and baserunning than willie. barry's the only guy to come close.
November 23, 200322 yr will somebody go and declare ted williams the winner already? this one has clearly been decided, but i guess giantsin04 doesn't want to call it since the greatest giant of all time has lost to the greatest red sock of all time. of course, i think something should be said about the greatest yankee of all time.

November 24, 200322 yr Willie is better than Ted, but the best of all time is Babe Ruth. Let's see if Barry, Willie and Ted can pitch 14 innings on a World Series game.

November 24, 200322 yr let's see, willie mays had 11 votes 3 hours ago and he had that many for at least several days. all of a sudden he climbs up to 17 votes, at the same time another 6 users are created in a span of 13 minutes, including such usernames as "sfg" and "I AM THE GREATEST!"... like i said, you seriously need to find yourself a hobby. i wonder if you have "OF #25" tatooed on your left a** cheek.
November 24, 200322 yr Heh heh I voted for Williams basically because I think this tourney poll was a bad idea. Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time. He, like Jordan, transcended their respective games.
November 24, 200322 yr when have you ever pitched or outhomered a team? Different generations. When was the last time Babe Ruth hit 73 home runs in one season?
November 25, 200322 yr when have you ever pitched or outhomered a team? Different generations. When was the last time Babe Ruth hit 73 home runs in one season? He's got a point. And when did the Babe ever win 3 MVP's in a row? True, players weren't allowed to win more than one MVP prior to 1930, but let's not let facts get in the way. That was a different generation. Now, it's all about OF #25.
November 25, 200322 yr Author and this should have been bonds' second 4 peat. He got screwed over in 1991 and 2000.
November 25, 200322 yr You want to know what it all boils down to? How many rings did Barry win for his team? 0. How many rings did Babe Ruth win for his team? The list goes on.....
November 25, 200322 yr Author Bonds didn't have Lou Gehrig batting behind him for a large chunk of his career
November 25, 200322 yr Fact of the matter is, Yankees sucked when Babe played for the Red Sox (kind of ironic, the Red Sox were winning Championships). He arrives in NY, they win championships and Boston doesn't. Hmm, is there a corolation? :mischief2
November 25, 200322 yr I would just like to point out that if Ted Williams had his average season in the years he lost to war service, his career numbers would be: 3402 hits in 9876 AB (.344) 2304 runs 673 doubles 90 triples 668 home runs 2356 runs batted in 2591 walks 907 strikeouts His career on base percentage is a whopping .482 Willie also lost a year to military service. Also, just because I found this interesting. The most similar hitter, statistically, EVER to Willie Mays at the age of 27: Vladimir Guerrero
November 25, 200322 yr I can't believe some of you are questioning Babe's greatness over any player. - Babe Ruth (Greatest player of all time - great hitter, great pitcher). A combo never seen again. Changed the game of baseball, like Jordan did for basketball. - Ted Williams (Greatest hitter of all time). Barry is a close second - Willie Mays - Best all around defensive/offensive player.
