November 14, 200322 yr I was going to put this in the San Francisco Giants forum but can't seem to find it so I guess it should go here ... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=gian...ov=st&type=lgns CHICAGO (Ticker) - ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago is reporting that the San Francisco Giants have acquired catcher A.J. Pierzynski from the Minnesota Twins for reliever Joe Nathan, minor league pitcher Boof Bonser and a minor league player to be named. The teams have not yet confirmed the trade. Pierzynski hit .312 with 11 homers and 74 RBI for the Twins last season and is eligible for arbitration. He could replace 38-year-old Benito Santiago, who is a free agent. The Twins were looking to clear the position for Joe Mauer, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft. Nathan could provide much-needed bullpen help, with the Twins facing the possibility of losing both closer Eddie Guardado and set-up man LaTroy Hawkins in the free agent market. Nathan went 12-4 with a 2.96 ERA last season, allowing just 51 hits in 79 innings. Weren't the Cubs supposedly looking at Pierzynski? I wonder if this hurts our chances of resigning Rodriguez.
November 14, 200322 yr Now you want to talk about a clubhouse cancer. I think I've seen every single Twin say how much of an TOOL AJp is. They still like him cause he plays hard but nonetheless a tool.
November 14, 200322 yr Sh*t! I loved Pierzynski behind the plate for my Twins! That sucks! Joe Mauer is good. And will be good. But Pierzynski is a consistent hitter and a physical defensive catcher. That really stings. But the Twins will get rid of Guardado, they know that he is worthless and always gives up hits and runs when he has a save opp. The Twins players loved him. I don't know where the clubhouse cancer phrase comes from. But hes a great guy and is extremely funny. But opposing batters despise him because AJ talks more trash then a garbage man.
November 14, 200322 yr Now you want to talk about a clubhouse cancer. I think I've seen every single Twin say how much of an TOOL AJp is. Him and Barry will get along fabulously! Can you say Kent/Bonds all over again? :lol
November 14, 200322 yr Francisco Liriano - S - Minnesota Twins Nov 14 Left-hander Francisco Liriano was traded from the Giants to the Twins in a four-player deal. The Giants sure are giving up a lot of young pitching here. Liriano, who turned 20 last month, entered the year as the Giants' top lefty pitching prospect. Due to shoulder problems, he was limited to just nine innings in the minors. However, there was never supposed to be anything major wrong with him. He's at least two years away, but he has a great deal of upside.
November 14, 200322 yr Joe Mauer was the #1 baseball/football prospect in his state his senior season
November 14, 200322 yr A.J. Pierzynski wasn't actually on the market. He was still signed under the Twins, but they traded him because he was eligible for arbitration and his salary was going to go from 365K to about 3-4 million. I don't know what this says about Pudge, but at least the Giants aren't going to go after him now.
November 15, 200322 yr I only like this move for the Giants if they still have enough cash to fill the gaping 1B and RF holes. If not they just stole a chance for that Yorvit guy who can play for a more expensive, proven player WHILE losing their most effective pen pitcher and 2 good looking minor league arms. With Barry reaching breakdown age I think the Giants will fill those holes and try and make a huge push for a championship while Bonds is still playing, even if it means they absolutely suck for 4 years after Barry retires/moves on.
November 15, 200322 yr i have mixed feelings about the trade. I think he's a huge upgrade from Benito and he was the best C in the AL. However, Bonser and Liriano were two of our biggest prospects, and Nathan was the best pitcher in our bullpen last year. But we do have an overloaded bullpen and we still have 6 guys, 7 if Worrell is re-signed. Overall, I think the trade works out well for both teams. Considering AJ's age and price, there is no catcher I would rather have. I will miss Nathan though
November 15, 200322 yr Wow!!! Now the Giants will have 2 big mouths on their team again...maybe they will lead the division in cockiness and trash-talking :lol :lol :lol What's up with Butt-Nito Santiago? What will happen to Yogurt Torrealba now? Tune into the next episode of "As SBC Park Turns" and find out.

November 16, 200322 yr Torrealba will probably platoon with Pierzynski well thats not the dumbest thing ever is it?
November 16, 200322 yr considering that we don't have much chance next year (or any year) and Torrealba is our catcher of the future, it's not that dumb.
