if anyone else is a little bit ticked we didnt make a run for AJ Pierzynski?

he is a cheap($425k in 03), young, good, left handed(hitting), catcher...

especially with Pudge wanting a multiyear, huge contract deal and the fact that Ramon Castro is in trouble

I mean, the Giants didnt give up that much....

oh well, maybe im just venting on this off day....

thoughts>?

the lodown on AJ....

26 years old

bats: left

career .301 hitter, hit .312 with 11hr and 74rbi in 03

.360obp, .464slg, .824ops in 03

If you are a bit upset, imagine the Cubs! Also I believe AJ P is arbitartion elegible, so he will make some good $$ on 04.

I think we are focusing on Pudge, I think for us is either Pudge or Castro. I believe the Castro incident will be a non event. And I'm sure our FO has assessed the Castro situation very well.

btw, this is what is being reported:

- Cubs offered Cruz & Wellmeyer (no go)

- Giants have acquired catcher A. J. Pierzynski from Minnesota, in exchange for pitchers Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and a minor league player to be named later.

true with the arbi part on AJ, but still, how much could he make at most, $1.8-2mil?

wow

wow That's a rumor, not sure if it is 100% true.

btw, Benito Santiago is a free agent. I guess we can always bring him back. . .J/K

Imagine the tandem of Pierzynski and Castro.

But if that's what the Cubs are offering, nobody else really has a shot IMO.

That still is a rumor...

and if it's true...

WTF are they smoking?

Why are you "Just kidding"?

Santiago is probably one of the options we're looking at. Another latin american player with World Series experience and leadership.

Not to mention the guy can still play. If we could get him at the same rate as Redmond would be through abitration, I'd go for Benito.

Word up here in Minnesota is that A.J. will get around $3 million. I wouldn't have gone after him. I don't watch the Twins much myself, but most people say that he isn't worth that much. I also read that the Twins insisted on Cubs minor league pitcher Sisco to be included in any deal. I think that his 1st name is Andy and he's about 6'8".

WTF are they smoking?

That's what I was thinking.

I mean, Cub fans were going ape when they heard that might have been the cost of Mike Lowell back in June. AJ is not nearly the player Lowell is, so if that is true, they must be going insane.

I think it was a very good trade for both. SF did overpay(depending who the PTBN is) some but a good deal. As far as the Cubs I guess they can't get anybody to take that overhype Juan Cruz on there hands. When are they going to learn you have to give-up something to get something.

The Cubs are the cheapo team. They have arguably the best market and they don't like to spent what's needed. And Cubs fans keep blaiming the Goat :D

He can go get you what you need, but he doesn't want to give up his farm talent to get it.

Hendry, to get stars, you gotta give up your precious minor-leaguers.

did they ever....

Francisco Liriano - S - Minnesota Twins Nov 14

Left-hander Francisco Liriano was traded from the Giants to the Twins in a four-player deal.

The Giants sure are giving up a lot of young pitching here. Liriano, who turned 20 last month, entered the year as the Giants' top lefty pitching prospect. Due to shoulder problems, he was limited to just nine innings in the minors. However, there was never supposed to be anything major wrong with him. He's at least two years away, but he has a great deal of upside.

Didn't they say that about us when we got Urbina and Conine? I say that if you think that it gives you a better shot at a championship, go ahead! Bonds doesn't have many more years left and with the steroids testing its even worse. Besides, for all we know this Liriano kid could turn out to be the next Michael Tejera(sorry to stoop to that level but im trying to make a point).

The Cubs keep offering Cruz on every trade out there. Do they think all GMs are stupid? I'm glad we didn't bite.

I think this is the Marlins plans....Sign Pudge for 2 more years (b/c past that we wont know since he is a catcher and those knees are a concern after playing such a long time)....After 2 years either Ramon Castro or Josh Willingham will take over catcher (they can learn from Pudge)....in the Arizona Fall League Josh is one of the best offensive players batting over .300 and has no errors at the catcher position...on a side note, i think Luis Castillo is going to get too expensive for the Marlins and i believe that they will get a second base prospect in a trade to play this year and Conine will pay first base.

No, for one thing I remember hearing some rumblings last year that he wasn't all that popular in the clubhouse. He caused some problems.

For another, the Marlins dont' have a catcher problem,...yet, and can't make their first move one of desperation. They have tremendous leverage in the trade market right now. They are extremely flexible, and that puts them in the driver's seat as far as negotiatiating goes. But after they make their first move, it decreases their strength substantially. Therefore, they are going to have to have an entire strategy worked out before they pull the trigger on the first move.

After they make one move, it will tip their hand, but until then, they are calling the shots. They have to go through the motions of offering deals to Pudge and Castillo, even if it's only for the benefit of us fans. At some point it's going to become apparent that it will just cost too much. Hopefully, by then, it may become a little more clear how Castro is going to do with his legal problems. I expect them to go away, based on the early stories I've read.

That's when the first deal goes down. It could be Lee for somebody, or Encarnacion for somebody, or whatever. But that will start the ball rolling. The results of the early moves will dictate the rest. The variables are endless, the budget is not.
