There's a new feature here, Topic Preview. It allows you to view the first and last post of a thread without opening the actual thread.

 

To do this, simply click the button that the arrow is pointing to in the picture below on the topic you wish to preview (you need to hover in the area for it to show):

I don't see that or any of the buttons in the screen shot anywhere.:huh

 

Edit: I see it now. You have to mouse over the area for the icon to appear. Why hide the preview topic button like that? I still don't see any of the other buttons.

Some of those are moderator functions to pin, close, etc a topic so they wouldn't show for non-mods.

 

They are hidden for aesthetic reasons. Hovering there brings them up quick.

I bet most people don't even know about this because they never put their mouse in that area. You should probaby edit the first post and make a note about having to mouse over the area for the button to appear.
