August 3, 201016 yr Only with defensive positions, shall we? Okay this mainly concerns three players and positions. Lf 3b 1b Logan Morrison Chris couglan gaby sanchez Let's start with gaby... I believe he doesn't really have the hieght nor skill to play first. He cannot pick bad throws, a few of those cantu throw could have been picked by many other first basemen, and have before because cantu has thrown alot of one hoppers before but they were ussualy picked by our previous firstbasemen. I say move gaby to third, he can't be any worse then what cantu was and he just not ready or will never be a full time firstbasemen. Logan Morrison came up as a first baseman and does have the hieght to get some over thrown balls, I haven't seen his picking skills yet but he cannot be any worse then gaby. He does not have the quickness nor the reaction speed to play the outfield IMO. So i say move morrison to first. Chris couglan < I'm sure I spelled that wrong, whatever. I know alot of you will agree that Chris has been brilliant in left. So why mess with it? Not much more needed to say then that. He should be our left fielder. LF= Chris coughlan 3B= gaby sanchez 1B= Logan Morrison __________ on a side note, does anyone know how to change or is it possible at all? Your username

Your username So many spelling errors and lack of capitalization..."First baseman" BTW. Also, everything I bolded is not true. I don't feel I need to elaborate. Just not really that well thought out of a post imo.
August 3, 201016 yr Author I'm on an iPod the posting thing is kind of difficult. It only let's me see like three lines and I can't go backward. Atleast not that I know of yet. And you think gaby will be a full time FB? You don't think Chris has been good in left? Hmm okay

And you think gaby will be a full time FB? You don't think Chris has been good in left? Hmm okay Now that makes sense. Thnx for clearing that up. Anyway, Gaby is definitely currently thought of as the long term 1st baseman. He can't play 3rd base, he's really bad defensively at 3B. Morrison also projects long term at 1st base, but considering Gaby's there, we played Morrison quite a bit at AAA in LF, so he has some experience. Just like Coghlan at 1st in LF, he needs an adjustment period. He'll never be a good LFer, but his ability to get on base will make up for he mediocre defense in LF. Coghlan statistically hasn't been good in LF. He's got a weak arm in general (a 2nd baseman's arm), and tends to take bad routes to the ball. Ask the sabermetrics guys and they'll show you how Coghlan has cost this team runs with his defense in LF. Long term you'd like to see Coghlan at 2nd base, but we also want to keep Uggla here long term, so next stop for Coghlan is 3rd base when he comes back, which is the position he was originally drafted at.
August 3, 201016 yr Author The problem with gaby is that, he kinda swipes upward when he is trying to pick certain balls, it's just not the natural way of doing it. Which is why you see the ball pop up like 2 or 3 feet from his glove because the way he tries to pick it. Also he is not really tall so he's really stretching himself out to get alot of these. Like I said I just haven't seen enough of Logan to comment on his infield skills, but from what I've seen in left, it is a total down grade from coghlan. He doesn't react good to balls hit his way and he doesn't have the speed to make up for his bad reaction time. Which is why I would preffer Chris in left. Idk know all the numbers because I just don't have the time to keep up with that but I just like the way Chris plays left. I think he does a really good job
August 3, 201016 yr Man, I haven't heard anyone ever say he's brilliant in LF. Actually, he's really terrible. And Logan looks better in LF than CC for most of last year. Oh, and neither Logan nor Gaby can play 3B.
August 3, 201016 yr Author I have to disagree with you, he is not terrible. He's made some great catches and has more range then logan IMO. No way do I believe that logan is better then Chris in left. Today is email Tuesday right? Someone shoul ask Tommy and rich, who's a better fit in left? I'm pretty sure they will both choose Chris. I don't think that Chris would have won rookie of the year if he was "terrible" in left. Third base is the problem isn't it?
August 3, 201016 yr Logan Morrison (1B) - LoMo seems like the ideal build for a first baseman. He has a height advantage (not by much, but every inch counts) and his potential power at the plate better resembles a 1st baseman than Gaby's does. Plus he has played 1B for most of his stay in the minors, except for when the Marlins were training him for LF. Gaby Sanchez (3B) - By default, Gaby takes 3rd because there is no way I see him playing the OF. He played 3rd base a little less than half the time in the minors. And also never played an inning of OF. Like its been stated... Gaby can't be much worse than our previous 3rd base defense. Chris Coghlan (LF) - And by default of Gaby's default, Coghlan stays in LF. He has improved much, and I'm sure his OF play can only get better from here on out. He has made some spectacular plays in the OF, but those are probably just from bad reads and jumps he gets on balls. And a lot of the times, it translates to errors and misplays. Well this is how I see it. But I think (hope) that Matt Dominguez is going to throw a wrench into these plans in a year or two.
August 3, 201016 yr By the way, I don't feel comfortable with any of our options at 3rd base. But Gaby is just the best fit using these 3.

I don't understand why all the lack of confidence in chris? He has made mistakes but this is only his second year and He hardly had any expiernce when he started. The reason why i like him out there is because I do see that he has the skill set to be really good in left, maybe doesn't have the strongest arm but I just like the way he gets to balls. I don't worry when Chris is out there in left, I do worry when logan is out there

And since LoMo is a better fit at 1st and there is no way Gaby is going in the OF, Chris is at LF. Just the order I put them in. I agree that Coghlan has good speed/agility and with time he will get better. His weak arm isn't too much of a hinderance because LF's usually have the weakest arm in the OF. He is easily the best outfielder out of the group.

I don't think that Chris would have won rookie of the year if he was "terrible" in left. Third base is the problem isn't it? Who has more range, I'm not ready to say. Chris has bad range because he takes terrible routes, but I haven't seen enough of LoMo to say either way. His routes seem a bit better and WAY better than when CC started (though LoMo has a little more experience than when CC started). And you're wrong about that bolded part, because he was one of the worst defensive LFers in the league last year and he did win it. There's no way around it, he was terrible last year and is still not good. He's improved but I still don't really like him out there. As far as "he's made some great catches" wasn't LoMo on webgems like 3 nights in a row? But it comes down to this, even if you think CC is better than LoMo (I'm sorry, I refuse to take "brilliant", let's say he's average). How much better is he than LoMo after he gets some strides under him? Not much. How much better will he be at 3B than Gaby? A TON S*** BETTER. Gaby is an absolute butcher at 3B, which is a much more important position. You can't highly weaken one of the most important defensive position to strengthen the least important defensive position by a bit. It doesn't matter that CC is a better LF, he's also a better 3B and 3B trumps LF.

Oh, and neither Logan nor Gaby can play 3B. And here is the problem. Logan is the far better defensive 1B, but where to move Gaby to? When he was hitting in the low .300's everyone seemed so pleased with him over there. They would complain about our defense, but really didn't want to do anything about it except get rid of Cantu. Like by some miracle that would change everything. Bring up some ideas to try in the off season or once this season is out of hand and the name calling starts. So let's just see what happens when/if he is hitting .280 or below and his OBP drops along with that by the end of the season.

And I love that you're already predicting Gaby's demise. Second thing I love, Bonifacio gets years from you to wait for "better defense", Gaby got a couple games in Spring Training. You're just plain wrong about Gaby's defense my friend.
August 4, 201016 yr Anyone else think that one of those 3 will be traded when Matt Dominguez is ready and proves himself able? Because most people thought Gaby would just be a stop-gag until Morrison was ready. And I think its safe to say, Gaby exceeded everyones expectations. Morrison has greater upside than Gaby, but obviously he hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself fully yet. And Coghlan is the reigning ROY which speaks for itself. We all know what he is capable of when hot (and unfortunately, when he is cold). But the organization seems really high on Matty D too, and more than likely will give him an opportunity to win the 3B job.

Since I'm not sold on Logan playing in left, I rather have 1 bad risk defensively ( third base) rather then have two bad risk ( left field and first base). Logan doesn't have a body like Mike in right, logans body is more like Adam dunn's, not exactly but just making an example. I know logan runs better then Adam dunn but just Saying. I'm seeing this, as we get deeper into the season and say we get closer to the WC or DL, say like two or three games. And we're in a big game against the braves, it's the fifth inning we are down by one and they have men on first and third. So the ball is hit slowly to third, whoever is there throws a one hopper to first? I just don't have the confidence that gaby will pick it? Cantu didn't just start throwing one hoppers to first a couple weeks ago, he's been doing for years. The only difference is that in the past guys used to pick it. Idk know how strong gabys arm is, even though I saw him make a nice throw from first to third yesterday. Also left field at sun life is no walk in the park, it's a easy positition in most parks but I probably wouldn't say that for sun life. Firstly you got the ad wall where the scoreboard used to be, and then you have the horrible lighting that was meant for football. I SEE ALOT OF BALLS GETTING PAST LOGAN. I get will just have to wait and see. With all that said I'm sure you're going to have your way because the fact that CC injury was a knee injury, I am almost positive they will put him at third. Alot less running and diving at third.
