Alright, so the good ol' step to third, look and/or throw to first move is pretty well known from the right handed pitchers.

Is there any reason lefties don't do that in reverse? Step to first, throw to third?

I've never seen it happen and I'm curious as to why not. Of course, the throwing error towards third, the run scores, but the same really applies on the throw to first, so, I say why not?

I don't think anyone would actually expect that, especially if there is a speedy runner on first taking a big lead, the runner on third would be expecting a throw to go to first, and then suddenly, boom, it's going to third after a sudden spin-around.

Any thoughts on that?

I've only seen the balk.. err fake to 3rd, throw to 1st worke once.. our beloved Rick Helling of all people a few years back.

The only way it works is if the guy at first is going to steal and he thinks the move to third is the guys motion to the plate... so i cant see it working the other way around as people dont really steal home.

There's no point to it, no one leads off from 3rd enough for that and like you mentioned the stakes are too high.

Well, I do believe the stakes are the same regardless of which base you throw to, since a wild throw to first would score that run anyways.

But I was thinking more the runner on 3rd getting his secondary lead and then getting picked off after that, not just him taking an outrageously big lead.

No one ever throws to first though.
