JUPITER, Fla. - Jupiter Hammerheads outfielder Kyle Jensen has been honored as the first Florida State League Player of the Week of the 2011 season, for games from April 7th to April 17th.

In that span, Jensen batted .488 (21-for-43) with four doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs. He paced the league with 34 total bases, a .791 slugging percentage and a 1.342 OPS.

The California native opened the season with a nine-game hitting streak, and has reached base in every game this year. In the 11-game award period, Jensen collected seven multi-hit games, including four 3-hit performances.

Jensen was a 12th round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2009 MLB Draft, coming from St. Mary's College where he was twice named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team. In that season, he picked up a New York-Penn League Player of the Week award, just days before being named to the league's All-Star Team. Last year, he led Class-A Greensboro with 126 hits, 26 doubles, and 86 RBIs.

It's a shame he's blocked. I would love to see what he can do in the Majors but with Logan, CC, and Stanton in the outfield he wouldn't get playing time unless he could make the switch to 3b.

Second year in a row he has put up a good average with impressive power numbers. Could be a good trade piece if we make a move at the deadline.

Forgot to post this the other day.....

Jupiter Hammerheads outfielder Kyle Jensen has been honored as the Florida Marlins Minor League Player of the Month for April.

In 23 April games, Jensen batted .369 (31-for-84) while hitting five home runs and driving in 19 runners. He added six doubles and 11 walks to post a .454 on-base percentage and .619 slugging percentage. Both marks placed him in the top five among Florida State League players for the month.

Keep it up Kyle, wouldn't mind seeing him sent to Jacksonville and Skipworth sent to Jupiter
