I rather lose Castillo than Lee, you barely find anyone who hits 30+ HRs 100+ RBi and has such a glove like Lee... Trade Castillo get a cheap 2B (Almoar, Walker, etc) and keep Lee !!!

We can't trade Luis, he's not even on our team anymore.

 

And the longer this has went, the less I want to lose Lee. I'd rather have him than Castillo or Pudge.

 

He just brings too many things to the table and he plays a position where you have to have the kind of production he brings.

 

He won't be back though.

Agreed, I said this on another thread I believe too - Lee is more important than Castillo. And certainly worth the money - eventhough Lee will never be the force he could be playing at JRS.

i agree completely. for the money, lee is more worth it for us to have than castillo.

 

unfortunately, if we don't trade lee, we miss out on a huge chance to help rebuild our now-replete bullpen and farm system. we won't get the kind of players by not signing castillo (pity picks) as we would by trading lee.

 

i'll miss the guy. good thing he'll probably be in the AL next season.

You can find many firstbaseman and outfielders who hit 30 HR and drive in 100 runs and play above-average defense, thus depressing the value that Lee really has. You can't often find a second baseman who hits .300 and plays gold glove defense, thus rising Castillo's price.

I'd also like to know how you consider Alomar, Walker or Grudzielanek 'cheap' and worthy of their demands when their reported salary demands are within 2 million dollars of eachother.

Todd Walker, who will turn 31 next spring and has seen his OBP and slugging percentage decline over the past three years despite being featured the deadliest batting lineup ever last year in a notorious hitter's ballpark is going to do well in 2004? In Pro PLayer? Possibly even see his offense jump to levels never seen before to cover for his weak defense? Replace Castillo? And sign for $3.5-4 million dollars?

Well, if not him, maybe the 34-year old Grudzielanek will get some favorable winds to help him improve on his 3 home runs in his career year with the Cubs, right? Unlikely. And maybe he's fit and lucky enough to keep it going for another two years, right? For $4 million, he's a sure bargain considering he'll challenge Curt Schilling in strike out totals.

Or Roberto Alomar who will take a 60% paycut to sign a $3 million dollar contract to finish out his career strugglig to hit .250 and get on base a third of the time?

Why are you attacking me? I'm the one that says it's more important to keep Castillo than Pudge. I believe I may be the person most in favor of keeping Castillo. I was just trying to say that if Castillo leaves, the world does not end.

And I'm just saying that given his possible replacements, if Castillo leaves it's worse than if any other non-pitcher leaves. So we should dedicate more of an effort to resign him and be willing add anoher year or half-million to the reported offer.
