In my mind we are worse. The 1998 team made no attempts to be good despite being defending champions. That team was the result of a genuine firesale. This team is just the result of incompetent front office work, with years of bad trades and practically letting talent walk while trying to maintain the presumption that we were going to be just as good as before, finally taking their toll. In my mind a season like this is a couple years over due because the front office has been getting too much credit from sources around baseball for merely putting mediocrity on the field year after year, just because of our payroll. Low payroll or not, it wasn't not spending money that bothered me after 2006, it was that most of the talented rookies we had from a team that battled back from being practically league worst to nearly winning the wild card was eventually gotten rid of for almost nothing in return.

We're not on World Series hangover. No. We're deprived and bad, that's worse.

Looks like you might lose the bet in your sig. I laughed hard early in the season at us being any where near the Mets record.

Hah, right? I mean, I'll still acknowledge it and live my side of the bet. But regardless, based upon speculation on paper we shouldn't be this bad, so in all likelihood we will still pass above the Mets by the end of the season. Unfortunately, once we get out of this slump, we've already pissed away all of our 1st place ball and likely ruined our chances barring another amazing stretch of making the playoffs.
