Curtis Granderson suffers broken forearm; out 10 weeks

Well, with fantasy season coming up, one could either draft him and store him in the DL slot, or could also wait on him and attempt to snatch him on his way back from the disabled list.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson sustained a fractured right forearm in his first plate appearance of the Grapefruit League season and is expected to be sidelined from action for approximately 10 weeks, the team said.

Granderson was drilled by a pitch from Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ while batting in the bottom of the first inning on Sunday and was initially diagnosed with a bruised forearm.

Precautionary X-rays taken by Dr. Daniel Murphy in Tampa revealed the fracture. The Yankees said that the 10-week estimate is for Granderson to return to being completely Major League ready.

The 31-year-old Granderson played the top half of the first inning in left field, as the Yankees planned to spend the early part of the spring gauging an experiment of having Granderson shift to left field this spring while Brett Gardner takes over duties in center field.

Granderson hit a team-leading 43 homers for New York last season, batting .232 with 106 RBIs in 160 games.

The Yankees planned to have a starting outfield of Granderson, Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki in some alignment on Opening Day; Granderson's injury should create more spring playing time for non-roster candidates Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera, as well as promising prospect Zoilo Almonte.
