Posted October 14, 201311 yr One of the things that has always interested me is sports expansion. I thought that this may be a fun game to play. Say that the MLB was to expand for the first time since 1990’s with a team in Portland or somewhere. What players would be available in the expansion draft? If there was an expansion draft each team could protect 15 players from their season ending 40 man rosters and disabled lists. (Keep in mind that this would include prospects who have not yet appeared in the majors, there is no games played limit). Pending free agents are not eligible for projection, but arbitration eligible players are. So what are the 15 players the Marlins would protect and who would be available for the expansion team to select. (Note- It was hard to find the official rules so these are as close to what I could find reported from past expansions.)

Saying that, First 15 IF - Morrison, Dietrich, Hechavarria OF - Stanton, Yelich, Marisnick, Ozuna SP - Fernandez, Turner, Alvarez, Eovaldi RP - Cishek, Dunn, Ramos, Webb Next 10 IF - Brantly OF - Ruggiano, Keys SP/RP - Koehler, Hand, Flynn, Urena RP - Caminero, Jennings, Dayton Keys, Urena, and Dayton need to be added to the 40 man this winter so they count. You could switch Dayton for Olmos, Brady, or Hodges too but those are next in for me.
