Hail- CJ for Pierre, pudge signing, Mckeon, Cabrera, Willis and Connie in 03, LoDuca for penny, the 06 fire sale when we weren't coming back to the stadium, drafting Stanton, Yelich, Relamutto, Fernandez, spending money like cAzy November 2011 and chasing Pujols, hitting he reset in 2012 when it wasn't going to work, and signing Stanton out that contract so there feels like there's hope- but atleast the trade talks died unlike the Fernandez and Cabrera ones.(no pun- those JoFer talks would have only been red hot and inevitable if he were still alive and no extension was in sight- and it wasn't in sight at all with boras)

 

Rail- D.Lee for Choi, Letting encarnacion and pudge walk and overpaying for encarnacion and LoDuca to come to Florida, the 07 to 2011 team that always had potential but was never supplemented properly by Beinfest then hill, hiring Joltin Joe Girardi and letting him ruin Josh johnsons career, hoping buck and saltalamachia were the answer instead of the backups, letting New hanley have a run of the place for too long, Signing Reyes, Buerhle, Bell - Ozzie guillen instead of bobby v. Allowing Edwin's rodriguez to just quit mid road trip, the Dan jennings to from office to clubhouse idea,  dragging out this sale and handicapping the team during the season, and not getting enough out of mitre, olsen, Nolasco, Johnson and d-Train when we had the chance. 

 

I cant blame them for the Cabrera trade-  Miller and Maybin are still in MLB, badenhop was a good reliever for a while, and the catcher we got made the roster at one point. 

 

Those players were too raw and needed to see other coaches to reach their potential. Miller needed to be a Kershaw and Maybin needed to be Ken griffey to justify that trade for a long time - they were too young and got forced onto the roster instead of seasoning in the minors due to dombrowski giving them MLB contracts and them not being able to go down without risking waivers. 

 

The worst thing? Not getting the fans back in 2004- that doomed this franchise and the casual fan has no one to blame but themselves.

The Miggy trade was HORRENDOUS - even moreso in hind sight now considering some of the other names that were being mentioned in a possible trade for him - although I'd take Miller now lol (figures that we just didn't use him properly). 

 

Can anybody explain to me how it happens that we get a player via trade or signing, whatever, and while they are here they are minimal, but when they get to another team they are GREAT and make an impact?  Like Miller, Anibal Sanchez, Maybin, Ross (although this one may be a fluke), Lowell, Ramirez (yes spotty), etc.  I'm certain others can be named who may be a better representative of the comment then the list.  I watch the game, I understand the playing of the game, but where do the Marlins make the mistake?  And maybe all teams do it, but I don't watch other teams and I'm oblivious to it.  So I don't know if this is truly Marlinese or happens all over.  Please explain.

 

Coaching and expectations. That's all it is- here miller, Maybin crumbled from having to show their worth while might was an animal and didn't have the proper coaching. 

 

When all those players went elsewhere- Maybin and Miller had a sense of relief and better coaching, and all the others responded to playing in baseball crazy markets and a playoff atmosphere every night.

This is a decent point that never gets discussed. The 2004 and 2005 teams were built to contend and both had winning records and were in the playoff hunts. The team didn't fire sale the 03 team right after their victory. Plus they went big with the Delgado signing.

 

So what happened?

 

Totally on the horrible South Florida fans for just not keeping up with the team right? Can't realistically put too much blame on the Marlins there can we?

 

Even if this is a bandwagon town, you'd think the bandwagon would be strong enough the two seasons after a championship.

 

Does a team literally need to win championships in consecutive years for South Florida fans to continue to care?

 

That's so sad. 

 

 

Usually when anyone mentions Loria there are a lot of booooooooosssss.  And I certainly understand it.  But there are two things he has done very well.  At least I think so.

 

--Jose's send off from the news until even now where he, Samson, and maybe others see that his family is taken care of.

 

--Loyalty to former players/staff who are working in some capacity with the Marlins.  Niner, Trader Jack, Tony Perez, Preston Wilson, and I'm believe there are others.
