Marlins as a franchise would be 10x better off in a different market, tbh.  As I said back when I was a marlins fan, I followed the team but had a loathing for the town, due to their front running fans.  aka, love the team, hate the location.

I disagree on the Toronto trade from a baseball standpoint as it was a solid deal - from a casual "fan" standpoint however it was idiotic because it's not like we got anyone recognizable back in the deal to the same casual fans so they automatically scream it was awful - hell, I even had a knee-jerk reaction to it when I first saw it because of the sheer number of guys moved.

 

The CONSTANT changing of managers - I'm not in the camp that believes managers have a big in-game impact but constantly firing and hiring new managers is a shitty way to run a team. Period.

 

The Miggy trade was HORRENDOUS - even moreso in hind sight now considering some of the other names that were being mentioned in a possible trade for him - although I'd take Miller now lol (figures that we just didn't use him properly).  Miggy should have been the one to get the Stanton deal and remained a fish for life....and on that note.....

As much as I hate to say it he did get the impossible done and build a stadium (with a retractable roof no less!) which should keep the team there for years to come regardless of how shitty they might be or how sparse the attendance is (attendance is also largely on the city and its residents and not just the front office - if you want better players then f**king show up to games en masse)

 

Signing Pudge was a great move as was signing Delgado as both killed it during their tenures as fish.

The biggest mistake of the Loria error, uh I mean era has been the lack of player development, be it their drafting of players solely for signability over players that would have cost more, the absence of a presence in scouting foreign players especially in the Dominican and Venezuela where they signed and developed a great number of players earlier, could throw in the disregard of competitive balance draft picks, you  know that would have helped the team be competitive. You can also add in the terrible trades and the lack of commitment to a plan for success e.g. we're going to tear it down and rebuild and then barely into the rebuild try to buy a winner. 

 

I guess the successes of the Loria time will be the 2003 championship and the new stadium

Can anybody explain to me how it happens that we get a player via trade or signing, whatever, and while they are here they are minimal, but when they get to another team they are GREAT and make an impact?  Like Miller, Anibal Sanchez, Maybin, Ross (although this one may be a fluke), Lowell, Ramirez (yes spotty), etc.  I'm certain others can be named who may be a better representative of the comment then the list.  I watch the game, I understand the playing of the game, but where do the Marlins make the mistake?  And maybe all teams do it, but I don't watch other teams and I'm oblivious to it.  So I don't know if this is truly Marlinese or happens all over.  Please explain.
