Bullpen....right now

I just wanted to evaluate our bullpen and I need your help. So far, we have the following players in the mix:

Neu

Spoon (out for season)

Bump

Phelps (could be a starter...?)

Fox

Alamanza (?)

Tejera (?)

Neal (out for season?)

We could sign:

Looper

Benitez

I would like to see get a chance:

Jose Cueto (AA, probably needs more seasoning)

Arbitration is coming up, some guys will be freed. We could get a quality arm there, Kim or Williamson may be available. Dont want Kim, guy is plastic. With our Vlad chances dwindling, this seems to be an area of spending for us. Thoughts?

I've started to be high on Kent Mercker since yesterday, he was cheap last year, is a lefty, and is one of the top relievers still out there but his name hasn't been tossed around much.

Bump and Fox are the only solid relievers we have in our bull pen, wow, really sad.

Um, Neu?

Geez, I find it incredibly sad that all the so called "Canes Fans" only follow the football team and could give a crap less about the basketball team and a just as sucessful baseball team.

I wonder if we could still con the Cubbies out of Farnsworth.

If not, there is still always Matt Mantei who is openly on the block and the DBacks are offering to cover half of his salary. I think pretty soon they'll just give him away.

then sign a lefty specialist

Mercker

meh......

was it his 1.95era you didnt like?

that was last year alone, isnt his career era 4 something??? last year coulda been a fluke, and just something about kent merker just doesnt intimidate me, i want a lefty specialist that people are afraid of that will go in and dominate, isnt merker more of a finess guy, like red?

I personally would like to see Joey Eischen, but he isn't exactly a free agent this year (next year yes though, and I heard the Expos had put him on the block).

But think about it, what lefty specialist is anyone scared of? I sure as hell am not scared of a lefty specialist. A closer, maybe, but a lefty specialist?

i disagree, those guys are SUPPOSED to get lefties out, it should be automatic, a guy up at the plate against a lefty specialist should feel little chance of success..

embree is a good example
