With around an average of say $565K for the rest, that puts them at $45.215MM assuming that they don't sign any free agents or extend one of the players in house. Could go down of course if they non-tender Conley. They have a ton of money available for next year and it will get even better when Chen comes off the books.

October 10, 20196 yr What were you doing?!!?! Leaving a mess for the next owner. Even though some people think he only sold the team mostly because of Jose dying, I believe he always planned to sell them around when he did. It is when the backloaded and deferred contracts began to grow.

This is a good point, but you interpreted it wrong. The $17M is taken out of the 2020 contract and is made back as part of a series of deferred payments. Based on this Chen will get $5M base (22-17) as well as $9M on June 30th and $5M on November 30th, 2020. So in reality he will only make $19M next season as well as $15M the following year even if his option doesn't vest (which it won't unless he is put back in the rotation). He will get an extra $1M in 2021 next year as well as $15M in 2022 in the unlikely chance that it does vest.
