December 11, 20196 yr The Marlins TV deal expires at the end of this season and since the Rays are most likely going to leave the Tampa Bay Area by 2027, the Marlins organization should only sign a 7-10 year TV deal. Right now the odds for the Rays are as follows: Full-Time Stadium in Tampa Bay Area: 5% Split Season Plan with Tampa Bay and Montreal: 5% (Link below has story from the past week on Split Season Plan: Leaving Tampa Bay Area: 90% Sports fans never want to see a city lose their team but it seems that in this case, it’s inevitable by 2027. With this being the overwhelming outcome, the Marlins will have exclusive TV territory throughout the state of Florida. This will make a major difference in TV rights negotiations. Right now and in the past if Fox couldn’t make a deal with the Marlins, they could fall back on having the Rays. In the future, if Sinclair can’t come to an agreement with us then they won’t have any live sports programming throughout the Spring and Summer months. The Diamondbacks have exclusive TV territory throughout the state of Arizona (which doesn’t near the population or TV households of Florida) and they recently signed a 15 Year, $1.5 Billion TV deal ($100 Million per year). Also, when the Rays leave, the Marlins will have the opportunity to expand their radio network throughout the state. http://cdn.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28225506/st-pete-rays-end-talks-sharing-team-home-slate-montreal https://www.mlb.com/news/arizona-diamondbacks-agree-to-new-tv-deal-with-fox/c-109753842
December 11, 20196 yr Well, when Tampa leaves, can we get the Florida name back? city of Miami wont allow it
December 11, 20196 yr Or perhaps they could negotiate some sort of "if/when the Rays leave" clause that ups the value if/when that happens.
December 12, 20196 yr Author Or perhaps they could negotiate some sort of "if/when the Rays leave" clause that ups the value if/when that happens. I completely agree, if the organization chooses to sign a 15-30 year deal they should definitely have a Rays Relocation clause.
