December 22, 200322 yr okay, magglio would scare me. The redsox are losing a lot of players after this year, they can be screwing themselves for years to come if they cannot win the world series this year. And in my honest opinion, that ain't happening.

December 22, 200322 yr Even if the red sox get both a rod and magglio, they're not as flawless as they would seem. Magg's 2003 ops is .926 A Rod's is .995 Manny had a 1.014 ops Nomar had an .870 Total ops change when you go with a rod and maggs is .037. I understand that you are getting a huge defensive upgrade, but the offensive upgrade is slight. Now the Yankees have Gary Sheffield over the platoons they were having. That's a huge upgrade. Jason Giambi has a career average above .300 yet he batted .250, typical of a man with an injury. Now with his surgery, he should be doing much better. Soriano is still developing but has truly become a more patient hitter with a better obp. Bernie and Posada with the DH slot open will get a lot more rest, and their bats should remain potent if not more so in Bernie's case. Though the Yankees are now missing nick johnson, in return they have one of the best starting pitchers in the game. Brown when healthy is better than Schilling when healthy. Otherwise the Yankees starting rotation: (Mussina, Brown, Vazquez, Lieber, Contreras) is superior to Martinez, Schilling, Lowe, Wakefield, and Kim. The Yankees bullpen is scarily stacked (Rivera, Karsay, White, Quantrill, Gordon, Heredia). In plain english, the red sox team is excellent, but the yankee team is almost more disgusting than its $200,000,000 payroll. That's why I say bring on the a rod and magglio deals. Plus, you're not factoring in the simple fact that Manny Ramirez, half crazy Manny, will be out of their clubhouse. That's a major plus.
December 23, 200322 yr Who says that Ortiz, Mueller, Nixon or Millar repeat their 2003 performances? I think Millar and Nixon will duplicate or come close to last year stats next year. They have proved they can hit and it was not just a lucky season. Ortiz everyone knew had power and could be a force if he fell to the right situation and thats what happened last year, so it could happen again. For Mueller I dont know he never was a good hitting 3rd baseman except he did have a couple of years with an OBP over .380 so he might be able to do it again. He is the only one I have my doubts on.
December 23, 200322 yr Muellar is the only one I'm confident in, he ahs shown a good obp throughout his career. Ortiz is good, but not 30 homers good. And people might not like factoring ops, but manny and nomar are considered "all stars" for a reason. And will chicago trade away maggs so easily? What if George goes nuts (more so) and gets Guerrerro? Nevertheless, though I believe nomar is overrated, manny is definitely underrated and seems to get a long fine with the team besides the enrique wilson incident. Hell, I saw ortiz sitting on manny's lap! If that's not good clubhouse relationships, you tell me what is...though it would explain the spreading "sore throat" going around the red sox clubhouse.
