December 24, 200322 yr Vlad ain't coming. Have a holly jolly christmas all. and enjoy reading my rant on christmas: Christmas Eve Remember the meaning of the season: family and gifts. That's what it always meant for me, and judging from the crazy frenzy of people killing each other for the store's last X-Box, I would believe that's what its all about. Christmas, New Years, all of that stuff, they are all selfish holidays. Think about it, your family feast, you get yourself and the family presents, you teach kids the value of wanting to get more stuff...sounds pretty selfish to me. Christmas shopping is the worse. You are forced to buy gifts just to shut people up. I don't need to buy you soemthing to prove I care about you. If you truly want to make someone's day, just whenever you see something that someone would like, just buy it. That means way more than the exchanges that usually go on. In my family, it's the worst! I pretty much ask my brother and sister, "How much are we spending on each other?" We then buy gifts roughly that amount. Of course, we should of then just bought those things for ourselves. More headaches are abound when crap does not get mailed, like my sisters gift, which will not come until the end of January...yeah, merry christmas. We're a selfish society. Even the lot who say "keep christmas about Jesus" are selfish, because in reality Jesus has nothing to do with Christmas (he was not born on December 25th) and they are in reality saying, "Go to midnight mass and give us more money asnd you'll go to heaven in exchange." The Church and the corporations alike comercialize christmas, and try to ring every dime out of us like we are money sponges. Judging from the average American's inability to hold onto money and the same with our government, it seems like they are doing a good job. So let me give you a little story: There's a poor husband and wife and they only have two nice possessions. The husban had a beautiful pocket watch handed down to him, but he did not own a golden chain for it. He had a ragged and old leather strap for it. The wife had beautiful hair, but did not have a good comb to put in her hair. That Christmas, both decided to get the other what they always wanted: a gold chain and a fine hair comb. They indeed both go their gifts, but when the husban presented his wife the comb, she could not make use of it, because she had to sell all of her hair in order to buy the gold chain. When the husban had the gold chain, he could not make use of it because he sold it in order to buy the fine hair comb. The point? At times being selfless is good...wait a second, being selfless screwed both of them. The wife's hair will grow back, the watch won't. I guess the point is that the b***h always wins. Have a merry christmas.
December 24, 200322 yr thanks! I was wondering what the hell that story was, god knows I can't write that! Now to the "rebuttal" the the rant! Even though I'm Jewish, I like to think of Christmas as a time of year when we all should stop and think of someone other than ourselves. Christmas isn't about the b***h always winning or buying gifts just to shut people up. I was joking about the story and half of the rant is really a joke. Christmas isn't truly entirely selfish, but there are too many selfish people. You are a contradiction because even though it's obvious from your rant on Christmas that you don't believe in any of it, yet, I guess to shut your sister up, you went out and bought her a gift. A little Jewish guilt there, maybe?? The jewish guilt? I'm not sure if my mother passed that on to me, I did grow up with my Dad. My dad forces my siblings and I to exchange gifts in the spirit of the holiday. In reality, I'm just poking fun at the obligation to give when giving is not an obligation. Christmas is about faith and hope for a better future when kindness is repaid with kindness. No matter what religion you subscribe to, we all could use a little of that. It should be, we can all use the kindness thing, but one cannot say that it is too commercialized, and the spirit of selflessness and giving really isn't shown- it is pretty selfish like other holidays which are about boozing up or getting a day off from work. Christmas is more family oriented, and that's good, but the family itself is a selfish entity, when there are others to give to. I love Christmas eve and christmas. they are my favorite holidays. But i like stuffing myself up with seafood and opening up presents. Maybe when i have children, I will get enjoyment from giving them presents...but that is not the perspective I am taking.

December 25, 200322 yr Happy Holidays to everyone, whatever you celebrate. Cherish the time with your family and enjoy giving instead of always receiving. Count all your blessings and realize how good you have it while other people have to spend christmas in the hospital or on the street.
