January 11, 200422 yr Simon is cheap and more establish hitter At this point Simon > Choi I'm willing to give Choi a shot but it wouldn't be bad idea to sign Simon to have him ready if Choi struggles. Simon > Choi? Look at the stats. Choi will only get better and already has a better OPS than Simon. I would sign Simon for his pop off the bench, but not as a starting 1st baseman. Unless a markedly better player is available, like Vlad for example, then the job should be Choi's to lose. Mondesi, Karros, Simon, etc. are not improvements over the current starters and shouldn't stand in the way of Choi.

January 12, 200422 yr If we're going to bring someone in to work with Choi I'd like them to be able to play the outfield and hit righthanded to compliment Banks and Choi's LH bats.

January 12, 200422 yr Mabry, John I wouldn't mind him back. He is a good bat off the bench to have. Plus he won't cost much at all, maybe < 1 mil. I'm personally a fan of Maddux if he comes at 7-8 (which I think he will), because it makes our starting staff and pen a little stronger now and the starting staff alot stronger in the future. Plus, while we should have a reserve for a just in case midseason move, it won't have to be that much because remember that we wouldn't be paying salary for an entire year and we could always pull an Ugy deal and get cash to help pay it.
