Alright, by the end of this post people will most likely be telling me to shut up and that I'm stupid.

But how about Fred McGriff?

He isn't going to command that much. He's from Tampa. He's a lefty. He can work with Choi (also a lefty). And he'd hit his 500th homerun with us.

I can't see him getting more than $1 million, especially in this market. It would be nice pub, even though he's 40 years old, he's still got some pop. But the most important thing here is that he'd be a guy who can work with Choi, who can spell him as well.

What do you all think?

If you are looking to add another left handed 1st baseman there are better players than McGriff available like Randal Simon and John Vander Wal.

I wouldn't want Simon on my team.

And I'm not sure VanderWal could help Choi out in any way.

Why does Choi need to be helped out? He's 24, from all accounts an above average fielder, and he has one of the best INF coaches in the business in Perry Hill. Choi doesn't need the help as much as the Marlins need help off the bench. I wouldn't waste the money or roster spot on McGriff, when there are better hitters still available.

hmmm .. Van der wal .. that seems pretty good, we were after him last year around the same time when conine came... i dont know he could play first and of ... hes like banks but better ... hmmm id like that idea.

I'm ready to see the Choi Era...

Simon in teal will be great since he is a lefty with pop and a very good establish hitter unlike Choi.

I don't get why everyone is bailing on Choi already. Give him a shot. The money can be better spent elsewhere (Bullpen, OF) than for a 3rd first basemen for the roster.

Why the second guessing now on Choi? Choi hasn't put a feet in PPS and some think that he will be a bust? please!

I don't think he'll be a bust. I do however realize he's only 24 and he could use some veteran help such as McGriff.

Simon is cheap and more establish hitter

At this point

Simon > Choi

I'm willing to give Choi a shot but it wouldn't be bad idea to sign Simon to have him ready if Choi struggles.

Choi sees this oportunity as HIS opportunity. You sign a 1st Base FA, then the pressure adds up on this young man.

Focus on the bullpen now or sign a reliable bench OF, just in case. Then Conine could move to 1st base in case Choi is a complete bust or an injury happens.

If the FA wants to impress with a FA signing, Maddux is the best choice.

I rather sign someone who is proving and cheap rather than rely on potential. The objective is to have best possible team within salary restrictions.

We already have a veteran 1st base on this team, Conine.

Go for another starting arm and/or bullpen, and sign a solid bench OF and we are set.

Right now he is starting LF(You have to look at the bigger picture)...You're telling the is better of signing Mondesi if the Choi struggles?I'm no oppsoed to Mondesi signing but he doesn't have a good attitude. At this point Simon is better hitter than Mondesi..

No offense Kotsay, but your statement that you want McGriff more than Randall Simon makes this thread completely irrelevant in my mind.

Fred McGriff = :rofl

I dont know guys freds last two full season he had 100 rib and 30 homers, that wouldt hurt at all.. his salary last year was 3.75M.. and that will decrease since he got hurt last year..mayeb around 2M, and the 500th homer would be prettycool...
