Yep....looks like the "budget parameters" were $55M and less. Where did that bogus $60M figure come from?

I'm pleased with the current team roster....and believe Beinfest has the right priorities. Would just like for him to sign a solid 5th starter.

I think the 60M parameter is legitimate. Remember "Add bullpen depth and bench. . ." still needs to be done.

Plus, if you can meet your goals by being under budget, you are looking like a badass GM.

Hey if we're looking for a lefty for the pen why not bring back Mike Myers. I don't mean the guy who's Austin Powers either. Some other Free Agents out there that could help the bench and could be cheap include Todd Zeile and Shane Halter.

I say get Damian Moss and Sauerbeck. We can add a bench player in ST such as Abe Nunez or some invitee who would earn $300K. Perhaps Hermida proves he is ready?

I think this team is much stronger than last year.

Choi will not replace Lee offensively or defensively, yet. But he will be close.

Cabrera is a huge upgrade over Encarnacion - right now. I will miss Enc's D and his speed, but they are not irreplacable.

Conine is a huge improvement over H-Worth, but that doesnt say much. Conine will get .280 20HR. He is the quiet leader of this club too.

Castro has more power than Fudge, but not nearly as good defensively. But who is? Castro though is above average D and is respected on this pitching staff.

Speaking of, this staff is only going to get better. They were not together so much last year due to injury. I expect Penny to continue to grow, but have some lingering inconsistency. I expect Pavano to emerge as a winning pitcher - he can be a 15 game winner every year. Beckett has arrived, best pitcher in NL East, maybe NL. D-Train is going to have to continue to improve, but his numbers down the stretch were very promising - I think he wont be quite as successful as last year, but should still win 12+ games on this team. Burnett is a huge question mark...

Bullpen is much better than last year. Neu is solid, proven. Fox is very dependable, but needs to watch his walks. Benitez could emerge as game's elite closers again or could be bust. I opt for the former, and a one year contract pretty much encourages that. Plus, Phelps, Borland, Bump all look pretty solid to round out the pen.

We sign another arm for the pen/spot starting and perhaps a vet bat for the bench and we will be in good position to contend. I think we can expect 90 wins, but it may be more difficult this time around. The next weeks' moves are critical, but we wont be blown away by any big names I think.

If Zeile could play OF, I would do it. He is solid, kind of reminds me of Conine. He could play 1B, 3B, perhaps OF.

is it just me, or does this season have the same feeling as last season? we have a team that if they stay healthy(especially the starters) we can compete. hopefully we can stay in the race with the phils n in the middle of the year we acquire players similar to last year's conine n urbina deals n make another run at it.
