January 22, 200422 yr i know there's more to the environment. I would venture to say that I agree on a lot of things pertaining to the conservation of our environment, although i am by no means a treehugger. As for football being more important than RUNNING for vice president? Yes. Hell, football is more important than BEING vice president. Football now is how I will have my job in the future. And I feel I can tough more lives through my future job than I ever will being a vice president (not to mention, I would be a crappy politician).
January 22, 200422 yr Well I don't know, but should it be legal to throw people into jail without a charge?

Your vote would be appreciated though
January 22, 200422 yr Well I don't know, but should it be legal to throw people into jail without a charge? if you have intelligence that a known al-qaeda member who has trained in afghan training camps is planning to commit a catastrophic attack on US soil, and you finally manage to track him down and get him in custody, would you immediately release him back into the public because you don't have legal proof that he has committed or intends to commit a crime?
January 22, 200422 yr doods I dont like my rights and freedoms much. I support the Patriot Act 10000% :thumbup

Words I live by: "Those who give up liberty for the sake of security deserve neither liberty nor security." -Ben Franklin The problem with what you stated is that the other side of the coin becomes true. The patriot gives the government the right to throw anyone in jail who they want, without even suspicion. There are no writs to protect inmates jailed because of the Patriot Act, there is no due process of law for inmates jailed because of the Patriot Act, etc. You may say the government needs this to jail terrorists now, but who is to say the government doesn't abuse this in the future and put people in jail that don't belong there? You can jail him all you want, just have a charge. If you don't have enough evidence to formulate a charge that will hold up in an American court of law, then you have no business arresting him, terrorist or not.
January 22, 200422 yr Vote Craig Truglia...we need an italian president...why not! My campaign: open the books audit everything end the crazy deficit spending
January 22, 200422 yr The patriot gives the government the right to throw anyone in jail who they want, without even suspicion. actually, the patriot act allows the government to hold illegal aliens with suspected terrorist links for up to 7 days without charge. in order to be held in jail without charge, you must be: A) an illegal alien AND B) suspected of terrorist links. the government can't just throw anyone in jail, and it really bugs me that much of the public has the impression that anyone can be held indefinitely without charge. also, 7 days without charge may sound inconsequential to some people, but it gives authorities time to produce charges from intelligence without risk of losing custody of a suspected terrorist. if a charge can't be produced within 7 days, the suspect must be released. terrorists run around in virtual anonymity. if you have a chance to nab one, you don't pass it up. do i trust the justice department, local law enforcement, and judges to uphold my constitutional rights? absolutely. i'd rather not risk losing half of my personal wealth, seeing the markets crash, watching millions lose their jobs, and witnessing 3000 lose their lives because of fear of a perceived minimal loss of civil liberties. i trust judges, federal investigators, and law enforcement to do their jobs.
January 22, 200422 yr No, I got here first. You can be VP though. fine...but I have a very radical agenda. Alkazoid, you are right. I hate it when people blow the patriot act out of proportion,b ut personally I don't like how it opens the door for increased bureaucracy.
