Spurs over Kings...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Usually, the Sacramento Kings are exceedingly difficult to defeat at home. The exception comes when the San Antonio Spurs pay a visit.

Tim Duncan had 28 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks Friday night, leading San Antonio to its third straight victory at Arco Arena, 102-94 win over the Kings.

San Antonio was the only NBA team to win twice at Sacramento last season.

"I have no idea why we are winning here," Spurs guard Tony Parker said. "Maybe its our defense that bothers them a little bit."

Indeed, the league' best defensive team held the NBA's highest scoring team to 37 percent shooting (30-of-81).

"It may be our worst game offensively all season," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "You give the Spurs credit, they were good defensively. We tried to do too much on our own."

Parker kept San Antonio in front during the first half, scoring 17 of his 20 points. Duncan took over after halftime, scoring 20 points as the Spurs gradually built a double-digit lead and held on to hand the Kings their fourth home loss of the season.

"I tried to be more aggressive in the second half," said Duncan, who had eight first-half points. "I was settling for too many outside shots in the first half."

The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for the Kings, who staged a comeback last week to defeat San Antonio at the SBC Center.

Bruce Bowen contributed 14 points, and his defense made things difficult for Peja Stojakovic, who shot 6-of-18 and scored 20 points.

"They didn't shoot the ball well, that doesn't happen much to the Kings," Parker said. "This win is huge for our confidence, to beat the team with the league's best record."

Manu Ginobili scored eight points during the first half of the fourth quarter when the Spurs opened their largest lead, 93-75.

Ginobili scored 15 points and former King Hedo Turkoglu had 13 points in his return to Arco Arena.

Vlade Divac and Mike Bibby also had 20 points for the Kings. Brad Miller had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Anthony Peeler also scored 12.

"They hit a lot of shots early and we didn't bounce back," Bibby said. "We kept trying to fight our way back in, but then we would turn it over or miss our shots."

Game notes

The Kings honored Nate "Tiny" Archibald, one of seven players in franchise history to have his number retired. ... San Antonio opened the game making 14 of its first 20 shots (70 percent) and led 32-21 after one quarter. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger watched the game from a skybox. ... The Kings stayed in the game by making 15 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter.

if you stayed up late to watch this game....it was a great game throughout...unless you were a kings fan.

the best part was the espn crew who gave the spurs no shot to win the game and that tool stephen a smith and his constant hatred for the man in the 5 slot for the spurs...first it was david robinson, now its rasho.

rasho only had a solid game, especially from the rebounding aspect.

and of course the fourth quarter turned into the manu show.

barkley would of been thrilled.

"GINOBILI!!!!" haha

Even though I'm more of a Kings fan than a Spurs fan, it was a great win for San Antonio.

I myself too was amused how stupid Stephen A. Smith felt after he gave them no shot. I don't even really like the ESPN NBA Broadcasters, they can't even compare to TNT.

the espn studio show is a joke.

you have to have some tie to the spurs either with players or geographical location to truly enjoy the spurs.

either that or enjoy defense.

cause the spurs play what many consider 'boring' basketball.

Yeah they try to be funny but they're really not.

About the Spurs, I'll watch them anyday. I don't think they're boring. I like watching Timmy D, Manu, and Tony. They just have to work on that 66% FT shooting.

look at duncan's form.

its horrendous.

stephen a smith is the biggest joke for a sportswriter in america.

yeah to both

Congrats to the Spurs.

But thats 1 game out of 82 games.

Yes S.A. Smith is a joke, but Mark Schlereth is far far worse.

And yet the only thing I don't understand is that throughout all the hype the Spurs get (probably just due to NBA Champs) they don't even lead their division (the Division Lead is held by none other then K.G., Cass, Spree, T-Hud, G-Trent and Co. up in Minneapolis)

Minnesota is quietly leading the division and quietly the most underrated title contender out there. I like the Wolves chances against ANY team in basketball minus the Lakers. I'd be iffy about them, but I think we'd have a a prayer against the Lakers.

And BTW: the Wolves won in Sac-to back in Nov.

But congrats to the Spurs on being 2nd place in the Midwest division.

No offense or hard feelings were meant or aimed to Das in this post.

Get out of the first round.

Then call us (meaning the members of this board, I don't like the Spurs).

but wasnt there that one time when..... oh wait, Latrell was a Knick then

phlub man, im sorry to say it, but even if you get out of the 1st round your screwed against san antonio, sacremento, and a full strength laker squad, maybe even dallas. also, the division lead in february really doesnt mean anything

yes but its the best we have to go on here in TWolve land. :D

And heres a wager with you all,

I will wear either a Bears Logo, Vikings Logo, or Spurs Logo for 1 month if the Wolves do not make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs this year.

The logo can be chosen by you all at a time of your choosing if you guys win this wager.

all i know and i guarantee this.

unless there are injuries, the wolves CANNOT beat the Spurs in a 7 round series.

i really dont care what the puppies do against the other teams.

the only teams with a fighting chance to really win this thing is san antonio, los angeles (lakers), and sacramento.

i actually think the Wolves will make a run

but the regular season pretty much means nothing to me

thanks for clearing that up on LA, i thought you meant the clippers for a minute :thumbup

Garnetts the best player in the NBA. And deserved the MVP last year. Without him the Wolves would have never made the playoffs since Stephon was traded.

Now he has a lot of help.

The Wolves to this point are 2nd in the NBA over halfway through the regular season, which shows consistency and means something. I think the Spurs are overrated but not by a whole lot.

And the Lakers are in a world all their own, the Spurs, Wolves, and Kings combined can't touch what LA has.

yeah thats why the lakers are struggling mightly right now right?

bottom line...the lakers are OVERRATED, especially defensively.

Garnett would win MVP if he wouldnt do his traditional March-April swoon.

bottom line...the lakers are OVERRATED, especially defensively.

about time somebody realized it.
