February 19, 200422 yr Author Can someone refresh my memory as to what Urbina is looking for? if memory serves, he's looking for 2 years, 9-10 million (total, not per) Most starters don't ask for 9-10 mil per, nevermind Eric Gagne. Why would Ugy ask for 9-10 mil per? because he's insane? (see: random gunshot incident mentioned above)
February 19, 200422 yr Author Only b/c we were just talking about him.....this answers some of the questions like how much is he looking for. (from rotoworld, today) ------------------------------------- Ugueth Urbina Latest News Feb. 19, 2004 - 1:55 pm et The Pirates are still talking to free agent Ugueth Urbina, but the two sides don't appear close to striking a deal. Urbina still wants a two-year contract and isn't looking to take a paycut from the $4.5 million he made last season. At this point, it looks like the only way he'll get that kind of money is if some team loses its closer this spring. The Pirates might be willing to give him $6 million over two years, but they probably won't go much higher than that. -------------------------------------
February 19, 200422 yr At this point, it looks like the only way he'll get that kind of money is if some team loses its closer this spring. Either this spring or into the summer. And this very well could happen. If it does, Uggie will be in a much better bargaining position than he is today. Question is whether he is willing to take that chance. :confused
February 20, 200422 yr last i heard, this guy was shooting off guns on Venezuela. anyone heard anything about where he might be going? how much is he asking for? i feel that with our bullpen being our biggest concern, and spring training coming up in the next couple weeks, it is silly that there's no talk of us going out and geting this guy back for a big-money one-year deal, Pudge-style. obviously he's priced himself out of the marketplace right now. but eventually he's going to realize that sitting out a year will only decrease his value, and some team out there is going to be lucky benefactor of his desperation, pounce on him, and get a deal. it really should be us. Does anyone here remember Julio Machado?

February 20, 200422 yr Turns out he had a gun incident that ended his career. No one would touch him.

He'll get his money sitting out and waiting, because imagine if Foulke starts struggling or gets hurt, the Sox'll throw money at him and then the Yankees will throw more money to keep him off the Sox, or even teams come June or July will pick him up for money instead of prospects.
February 21, 200422 yr No one will give him the 5 million he wants, he can stay in venezuela if he wants. He is a great closer and all but he should threatend to stay if he doesnt get what he demands.
