Pirates with 5 walks and 4 stolen bases. That is the type of approach we need to implement for long-term success. Our plate discipline looks much better so far but there are still some guys with giant holes in their swings (Stowers, Mervis, Conine).

The most disappointing thing about Lake Bachar is his parents gave him the middle name of David. Like what are you doing Mr. and Mrs. Bachar?

That Soto trade may end up being the most lopsided trade in baseball history. A possible ace (Gore), a 20/30 shortstop (Abrams), a future 30/30 guy (Wood), a guy throwing 102 in the minors (Susana), and a toolsy guy who may or may not pan out (Hassell) for three months of Soto.

Kelly Saco is one of the few women announcers whose voice isn't grating. Honestly, I'd rather listen to her than Rod Allen. He must have some blackmail material on someone. Love the way she says Alcantara.

Good thing you don't have to worry about ole Garrett Braxton until next year.

Graham Pauley is coming up to replace Norby who is going on the IL. I really hope they give him substantial at-bats to see if he can cut it instead of Wagaman or Bride. Don't know much about the new signing from Phillies. His numbers don't look very impressive. Sounds like they gave up cash, hopefully they didn't give up a young prospect. I'm still haunted by them giving away Santiago Suarez.

Position Summary: Closing Pitchers
The biggest constant last year was Tanner Scott closing out games for the Marlins. Scott is long gone, trade to the Padres along with journeyman Bryan Hoeing for some promising prospects and since moved on to the Dodgers Dynasty through free agency. The Marlins do feature some promising pitchers on the younger side of 30 that rotated closing games. Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender are the de facto closers although the opportunities may be few and far beween. Jesus Tinoco was a solid pickup and George Soriano and Declan Cronin were a bit up and down. A few of these pitchers will get pushed to long relieft but the core is solid and young with room to grow. The minors feature some promising flame throwers. Laurbert Arias was solid in AAA although he had a horrific spring. Austin Roberts is a fringe prospect and John Rooney should provide depth. Beneath those a plethora of Marlins draft picks look to separate themselves from the pack including Tyler Eckberg, Matt Pushard, Xavier Meacham and Josh Ekness. Woo-Suk Go came over with some promise but needs to improve from the dumpster fire performance of last year. There's a few promising arms in the Dominican (Fernandez, Delacruz, Serrata) but they are all years away, if ever.

Position Summary: Relief Pitchers
Last year the Marlins were a bit of a revolving door of relievers. Most of the older pitchers were traded for marginal prospects (Chargois, Brazoban, etc.) and at the very least the Fish got younger here. Key cog Andrew Nardi is out a significant period of time with a back injury and Connor Gillisipie looks to moving to the rotation with injuries further thinning the middle relief core. Anthony Veneziano looks to have stuck from the move from Kansas City. With Nardi out, he's the only lefty of the bunch. The other bullpen are a combo of journeyman and AAA guys with a hybrid of long relievers and pseudo-closers. Lake Bachar, Christian Roa, and the five "closers" should see heavy use all year. The 4-A guys that could rotate in include Xzavion Curry, Josh Simpson, Brett De Geus and some likely waiver wire pickups. It's fairly rare to have many middle relief prospects as they are the leftovers from starters and closers. Josh Simpson, Josh Ekness, Tyler Eckberg, and Justin Storm look to be the best of the bunch. Jun-Seok Shim could be intriguing at the lower level provided he can stay healthy. Anderson Pilar was picked up in the Rule 5 draft along with Orlando Ortiz-Mayr and both could see action at some point if the Jacksonville to Miami shuttle picks up steam.

Position Summary: Starting Pitching
For the second consecutive year, the Marlins have put themselves behind the eight ball with a plethora of injuries to their pitching staff. 4/5ths of the projected starting rotation will start the year on the injured list with Weathers and Cabrera hoping to come back barring further setbacks, Eury Perez making his return the second half of the year, and Braxton Garrett out all year. The good news, if there is any, is that Sandy Alcantara is making his return from Tommy John and looks like his old self. The big question is how long he will be a Marlin as he is first in line to be traded as Peter Bendix will no doubt be working his rolodex overtime. Max Meyer will be second in line and need to show improvement on last year's performance as well as stay injury free. The rest of the rotation looks like Connor Gillispie, Cal Quantrill, and Valente Bellozo to start the year off. The prospects look much better and the AAA rotation of Dax Fulton, Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur, Xzavion Curry, and Patrick Monteverde is as good as any in the minors. Below that level, #1 prospect Thomas White should see time in AA, Noble Meyer is still highly regarded and will look to improve his control. Evan Fitterer, Brayan Mendoza, Jacob Miller, Karson Milbrandt, and Eliazar Dishmey are all on the future Marlins radar. Debutantes Aiden May and Grant Shephardson have high hopes from last year's draft.

2025 Predictions
Just because I am optimistic about the future doesn't mean I'm overly optimistic about this season. It should be about developing the young guys and without Braxton, Eury, Eddy, Weathers and Nardi the pitching is going to be a struggle. I just hope they give the prospects some time on the mound in the majors instead of the no-hoper computer generated guys we threw out there last year. With Jesus and Norby out as well for at least the first month it is going to be a struggle. Honestly, take away Sandy and our AAA team in Jacksonville might actually be better than our major league squad. The hope is we can lose less than 100 and get a solid half-season from our prospects coming up in the second half. They won't all shake out but if we can hit on 1/3 to 1/2 of them we should have a good foundation for our future.

Weathers out 6-8 weeks
Give me Bryce Eldridge and Kyle Harrison and call it a day. If they can get arias or tejada thrown in even better
-
Weathers out 6-8 weeks
Yikes. Forearm strain is not a good sign. Usually the precursor to TJ. Sandy fought through the same thing. So it looks like Weathers may be out long term. He's young enough to bounce back though. Rotation has gone from Sandy, Eddy, Weathers, Braxton, Eury, Max to Sandy, Max, Quantrill, Gillistipe, Bellozo, Mazur Pretty sure Kyle Tyler is sitting by the phone right now licking his lips and tapping his fingers like Smithers. Him or Anderson, Emmanuel, etc, etc,. Do we go ahead and give Lynn or Gibson a 1-year and hope they eat innings or is there ask too much? Get well soon Weathers.
-
Cabrera to begin season on IL
Run it back with one of my all-time favorite Marlins Henderson Alvarez, lol. He's still active and pitching in Mexico. Hard to believe he's only 34 years old.
-
Another grievance imminent from lack of spending
Hard to argue with that although it's a difficult pill to swallow to say hey we are going to suck for the next 2-3 years but then we will be really good. That's kind of non-optimal business strategy. I feel like they should admit it but won't or can't. That blame lies on Sherman. Bendix's hands are tied and his actions speak to what he is trying to accomplish. Agree he is not an eloquent speaker but if he can build a sustained winner I don't care how he sounds. Obviously, he's getting his marching orders from the owner and can't throw him under the bus.
