Remainder of Season Game Thread
Another Tyler Zuber master class. Keep pitching him, the KBO scouts are drooling.

Fire Bendix
Disappointing thread and a bad look from a poster who should know better. We just went over our projected win total for the year. (I bet over 72.5 wins on the Vegas line) We did this despite having a bad bit of injury luck, a rotation of 2, journeyman bullpen, and an extremely young lineup who hasn't come close to reaching their peak. In today's instant gratification society everyone wants an instant winner but the franchise has literally rebuilt it from the ground up (literally like the new complex in the DR). They have also taken a long-term approach going with youth. This takes time and we are still in the second inning. I get the frustration of long-time Marlins fans but given the restrictions on resources to work with (I.e. Bruce Sherman's empty man purse) the job done has been outstanding. The lineup has no one over 30 with Stowers being our oldest every day player. Reinforcements are on the way with a farm system that is getting more loaded by the month (Cannarella, Compton, Alderman, Max Williams, Snelling, White, Dishmey, Kisting, Solarte). The rotation has three promising anchors in Sandy, Eury, and Max (who still should be the closer in my eyes) a long with prospects White, Snelling, Milbrandt, Dishmey, and swing men Junk, Phillips, Gusto, Mazur. The bullpen has been a mess due to overuse, injuries, and never-was (that is you Tyler Zuber). Henriquez will be back, Phillips will move back, Ekness will get better, and Fulton might get better, Kempner looks promising. The rest can be DFAed as far as I'm concerned and filled with a couple FA sigings (hello, Adrian Morejon, Bryan Abreu, Woo Jin-An) and some farmhands. We have made some poor free agent signings with restrictive financial guidance. Loosen up your man-purse strings Sherman or that will be a problem. Our trades are long-term plays. There will be some hits and some misses. Liam Hicks is no world-beater and perhaps you forget he couldn't throw out many base runners. The returns for him look promising so far. I expect these thoughts from someone like else (that's you Taiwan Marlins, your language barrier is no excuse for your lack of baseball knowledge). All in all we are on the right track and shame on you Polly. Do Better.

9/8 vs Mets
Keep throwing Tyler Zuber out there. Keep pushing that rock up the mountain.
-
9/6 vs Cubs
Tyler Phillips has been pretty serviceable for the Marlins this year. Hopefully he can strengthen the bullpen in the future because it is a mess right now.

Cubs vs Marlins 9/4/2
Bradley "White Flag" Blalock joins a bullpen featuring: KBO Zubaz Indy League Cade Gibson Victor "what's your vector" Vodnik and "You don't know" Jack Ralston. All that's missing is a Jim Mora clip on the scoreboard. "Playoffs? Playoffs?!"

Cubs vs Marlins 9/4/2
It's Bradley Blaylock time! Wait til you see this guy. Holy crap he sucks! Guy makes KBO Zubaz look like Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson's love child. His over/under career ERA is Sanoja.

Cubs vs Marlins 9/4/2
The song remains the same to quote Led Zeppelin. Two rookie bullpen guys. Bats quieter than a church mouse. We just can't beat the good teams.

Cubs vs Marlins 9/4/2
Soon to be MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong and the playoff bound Cubs versus veteran Janson Junk.

Fish@Royals. 9/3/26 1940?
Doubtful at this point they will call anyone up who is not on the 40-man roster. Doubtful at this point they will call anyone up that is not on the ,40-man roster. The reason being the pending lockout. Minor leagues will be able to work out, major leagues won"t.

Fish@Royals. 9/3/26 1940?
This one is on Bendix and McCullough for blowing out the bullpen right before Sandy's start. They seem to do this as a trend, relying on him with no one left to back him up but AAA-lifers, never-was, independent League aces, and KBO rejects. When you have to turn to Cade Gibson and Tyler Zubaz to keep it close there is a good chance things will go awry. Learn from it.

Fish@Royals. 9/3/26 1940?
Down 1, trying to stay in it and we turn to Cade "independent League Cy Young" Gibson and Tyler "KBO" Zubaz to throw a little gasoline on the fire.

Marlins in DC. 6 ish. 8/28/26
The only guy on the team with a worse FIP is Javier Sanoja. His ERA is a fluke/mirage/small sample size. He is garbage.

Batten University was Virginia Wesleyan before it got renamed for a wealthy donor, Kyle.

Some broadcasting notes for Kyle Sielaff: Monteverde means Green Mountain. Monteverde played in the futures game in 1888 at Ebbets Field.

Marlins in DC. 6 ish. 8/28/26
The pride of Virginia Wesleyan, Patrick Monteverde, is now in. Monteverde is not very good. But, Monteverde is not Tyler Zuber. Game on.

LO, you want to play that game. Career saves by team for Tyler Zubaz: Miami Marlins 1 Long Island Ducks 2

I refuse to watch Tyler Zuber pitch. Updated career WAR watch: PollytheWog 0.0 Tyler Zuber -0.7 (NEGATIVE 0.7) Polly is extending the lead.

Hopefully just a mechanical issue but things unraveled quickly there for Eury.

Red Sox @ Miami 8/26/26 6 ish?
Good win. Shame we lost the series as you could argue we were the better team for all three games. We need to do the little things better like the Red Sox and Phillies do as the margins are slim. Good outing by Gusto, dare I say he's adequate. Big couple series up against the light punchers but they are on the road. Need to show we can still stay in the playoff hunt. We are on the verge of being a very good team. Not there yet but inching closer.

8/25 vs Boston Tea Party
We continue to do all the small things wrong and that is the margin of victory when teams like the Phillies and Red Sox play us. Arguably we are better than them but either our youth, lack of a complete roster, or poor fundamentals become our Achilles' heel every time. Flat-track bullies that need to improve in multiple areas to compete for the playoffs and championships. We are actually losing "in the margins", which is a bit worrisome. And again, I will likely say it on my deathbed, Tyler Zuber and Cade Gibson are not major league quality pitchers. END.STOP. FINIS.

Red Sox vs. The Good Guys 8/24
Yes, he was the best choice. The only other option was Vodnik, so yes. Now the problem was those shouldn't be the only options. Zuber has a worse career WAR than Pollythewog, so he is NEVER the correct choice. Tough loss, Fairbanks injury not good. Tyler Zubaz is not a major league pitcher. On to tomorrow.

Red Sox vs. The Good Guys 8/24
Not the most knowledgeable on this subject and from what I can tell there were 12 guys in the department. Seems a bit redundant in this day and age when you can watch every minor and major league game and have video of it to breakdown on a daily basis. Feels like we are modeling our approach after the Brewers and Rays and they are far more analytically based than the old-school approach of passing the "eye test". It's not like the results were overly impressive either way. Never like to see anyone lose their job/livelihood but the reality of years of business experience is that a lot of people just aren't very good at their jobs and when they do get fired it is long after they should have in the first place. I'm reminded of the scene in Moneyball where all the old heads are around the table and Brad Pitt points at Jonah Hill and he says "he gets on base Billy". That's really what it boils down to, it is a data analytic-driven world and anything not focusing on this is going to be sub-optimal going forward. I did see that the Marlins posted a minor league hitting coach job opening. Feel like I'm not alone in thinking the player development side, in particular the hitting approach, is the far more important and pressing matter at this time. That's kind of a lot of words that say nothing but you asked for my opinion.
