Parking at the new Ballpark
It is what it is, sir. The church should consult a lawyer, or else they might be in deep bleep; they could even lose their 501©(3) status as a church. Not likely. I'm not a lawyer but I can tell you that any lawyer with a license and any non-profit practice experience would be highly amused by that statement. There's exactly no chance that they would lose their 501-c-3 (I'm substituting dashes for parens, the board software turns it all into a copyright notice) over some parking-lot sales. Or even a whole lot of parking lot sales. The IRS states it clearly: An organization will be operated exclusively for exempt purposes only if it engages primarily in activities that accomplish the exempt purposes specified in section 501-c-3. http://www.irs.gov/c...=123299,00.html That's some pretty good government-regulation-speak, eh? In any case, if their primary thing is being a church, then parking space sales are purely secondary and ancillary to their purpose, no matter how many tens or hundreds or thousands of them they sell. They could raise 99% of their revenue by selling parking spaces for Marlins games on their property, and as long as their primary activity was being and acting as a church, they would have no problem at all with the feds. Put simply, from a 501-c-3 standpoint, how you raise revenue isn't necessarily related to and may well have nothing to do with what you spend it on, nor does it necessarily have any tax consequence. Unless many people are prepared to testify that this apparently long-standing church's primary purpose is to sell parking spots and not to minister to its congregants, they have absolutely nothing to worry about, and even then, it would be doubtful that their 501-c-3 would be revoked. Granted, 501-c-3 status is widely abused and barely enforced. But, any legitimate church like this one can sell parking spots on their property to raise funds until the cows come home without worry. Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure the priest cleared it with the archdiocese prior to signing the contract with the parking company. I for one can't wait to park in my own parish

Parking at the new Ballpark
I found out yesterday that part of the parking lot of St John Bosco Church will be used for parking for Opening Day and possibly for more games. The priest himself confirmed it. They are trying to raise funds for a huge debt the church has since it's in a poor neighborhood. The church is located on 13th ave and Flagler Street and is very close to the stadium. A parking company will take care of the operations. Consider this as another alternative and you can feel god about it because this church does a lot for the community in the area such as having free to very cheap after school care and giving out food. I don't have an idea of how much they will charge but I will try to find out and post it here.

Who is the Marlins' heart and soul?
Obviously it's JP. Who voted for Cabrera???? How can someone that doesn't play with heart on defense be the heart and soul of this team? 585821 get over it. he tries and makes good plays. if thats not heart, i dont know what is. go somewhere with that. and if im not mistaken, i believe his numbers are better than anyone. 586194 Actually, his defensive numbers are among some of the worst in the league. Cabrera has just plain given up on many occasions in the outfield. He's like Manny Ramirez on defense, every once in a while he'll make a nice play but 99.9999% of the time he's terrible out there. Just because you think he's "cute" doesn't mean you have to constantly try and make him out to be something he's not. 586839 Hey! i happened to enjoy watching cabrera's jlo ass from the fish tank

Why did they close the hotel thread?
you know, i'm mostly a lurker on this board but i just had to post about this whole thread. First of all, I must say it was very entertaining although i personally thought it was a total bs and just someone screaming for attention , but hey that's just me. And, if you marlinsgirl want to share about your 'experiences' i suggest you go to a groupie board or a groupie stories board where i think your stories will be better received by your colleagues. I agree with the moderator that this type of thread has no place in this section /back to lurk
