Statement from Loria expected soon
MIAMI (AP) -- With their hopes for a new retractable-roof stadium still in limbo, the Florida Marlins are continuing to "review all options," team president David Samson said Thursday. Samson did not say what any alternative options may include, nor would he say if the team's hope of being in a new facility in time for the 2008 season was still feasible. The Marlins want a 38,000-seat ballpark to be built adjacent to the Orange Bowl in downtown Miami. Yet the plan has been stalled by a gap in funding. The team, the city and Miami-Dade County have pledged $390 million toward the construction of a new stadium; that leaves a gap of up to $45 million. "He's going to review all options and then have a comment," Samson said, referring to Marlins' owner Jeffrey Loria. "And I'm still doing that with him. I hope to have news soon." The team, city and county did not meet a June 9 deadline imposed by Major League Baseball, which sought a detailed update on funding plans for the proposed ballpark. But Samson said he is in regular contact with the office of MLB chief operating officer Bob DuPuy, who requested the status report. "There's continuing dialogue at all times," Samson said after the Marlins announced the signing of three first-round draft picks at Dolphins Stadium, the team's home park since its 1993 inaugural season. "Baseball's very interested in what's happening here because we're one of 30 franchises and they keep track of that." State lawmakers have turned down four separate funding requests from the Marlins in recent years, most recently a bill this year that would have granted the team a 30-year subsidy and covered the gap in the current construction plan. Plus, the team's series of one-year leases with Dolphins Stadium, owned by former Marlins owner Wayne Huizenga, will expire after the 2010 season. Late last year, Marlins officials met in Las Vegas with Mayor Oscar Goodman, who wants a new ballpark and a major league franchise for it. "It's been many years, working very hard at trying to secure a place to play," Samson said. "As you know, we can't stay at Dolphins Stadium. There is no lease that allows us to stay here. So therefore, we have to start planning and going through all our options." Here's the link http://www1.wsvn.com/news/articles/sports/DBB1795/ Post your thoughts.

:plain They couldn't stop a damn kid in a police chase, but they can bust open a drug ring or something. 812588 I think the kid just got done playing Grand Theft Auto, then took it to real life. 812596 I hope my parents don't see that post. They are afraid that I might take it seriouslly as well. I still have all 3 for PS2 anyway. 812606 Me too LOL.

13-Year-Old Behind Wheel Of Stolen Truck
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Police said a 13-year-old boy stole a Hollywood Public Works utility truck Thursday morning and led officers on a high-speed chase into Miami-Dade County. Michael Tricoli stole the truck after an employee parked it and left the keys in the ignition on North 68th Way in Hollywood, according to a police news release. The chase began at about 11:30 a.m. after Hollywood police spotted the truck at the corner of Stirling Road and U.S. 441, Hollywood police Capt. Tony Rode said. Tricoli led officers through Hollywood, west into Miramar, then into Miami-Dade County and eventually to Hialeah, at the corner of Okeechobee and Lejeune roads. During the chase, Tricoli tried to run over at least one police officer and caused at least two car accidents, Rode said. Officers from Miami-Dade and Hialeah police joined the chase, along with helicopters from Miami-Dade and the Broward Sheriff's Office. It ended just before noon after officers used stop sticks and the teen got stuck in traffic. Tricoli struggled with officers during the arrest, but Rode said he did not know if the teen was injured. Tricoli is charged with felony possession of marijuana, grand theft auto, fleeing police, aggravated assault with a vehicle, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license. He is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center. Source from NBC 6 http://www.nbc6.net/news/4618104/detail.html Please share your thoughts.

Just back from Mota and Cabrera auto signing
Hi all, Just got back from the Cabrera and Mota autograph signing. Thanks so much to whoever posted about this. You made my son's day (year and life!). We had a foul ball that Cabrera hit last year and were dying to get it signed. It was really crowded at the beginning, but not terrible. I think it was better to go at the end no one was really there. I pre purchased a ticket, but honestly didn't see the advantage in that. Mota was soo nice to my son and he even remembered him (how shy and nervous he was) when we went back later on to get Miguel's autograph. It was an expensive day but worth it. I'll try and post pics later if anyone is interested. We'll be at the game tomorrow. Thanks again to the poster of this signing! 735166 It would be nice to see some pictures, BTW, where was the signing at?

Enc is batting 2nd tonight...
I think Conine should start tonight, let's see what he can do, Encarnacion did good only for 1 game with the Grand Slam. And what about Miggs, if pitchers keep throwing low and inside to him, he'll never hit a ball.
