2024 Roster Moves Thread
Maybe because the bullpen this year has been the same or slightly better than last year and we don’t have a true closer. The bullpen ranked 20th in ERA in 2023 (4.37) & 20th this year (4.21). The W/L ratio is slightly better after the trades so they must be holding their own. The Dodgers can make a lot of bullpens look bad after given up 20 runs. Your good may not reflect what is actually good under the circumstances. Also, the bullpen got shelled in the playoffs with an ERA over 5 last year.

In the majors. You’ll understand why I said affiliate although now it probably wasn’t the best choice.

ALL MARLINS TRIVIA PURSUIT #6 If you want me to merge these on one thread for now on let me know. I could be wrong on a couple of these. 1. What Marlin was the nephew & stepson of Mookie Wilson a former NY Met? 2. What Marlin pitcher hit Stanton with a fastball to the back of the head in a practice game heading into the preseason? 3. What Marlin hire challenged Jose Fernandez to a pitcher hitter duel? 4. What left handed hitter won NL rookie of the year? 5. What bullpen pitcher for the Marlins had a stare down on the mound in the World Series vs Jim Thome? (This is subjective but I wonder if anybody else noticed it.). 6. What Marlin won the MVP in the 1997 World Series, and what other Marlin believed he should have won it instead?- 1st round pick hurt, because...................we hire morons
Stupid but honestly, I want this kind of meatball on my team. Sounds like a gamer.- The Jazz Tracker

Polly gives this a thumbs up like he’s not the antagonist yet as soon as I end the topic, he quotes me saying that Jazz is in the playoffs.- The Jazz Tracker
Jazz had an 0-4 night with 3Ks. 13 games 8-49 .163 .AVG 4R 1RBI 0HR 7BB I think I’m done tracking Jazz’s stats for now. At this point I’m just looking like a hater. If you don’t have doubts that Jazz isn’t a superstar or he isn’t grossly overrated then so be it.- Marlins Trivia Pursuit #5
Shutting this one down. Best results so far but not much participation. BOX SCORE: 6-6 ANSWERS: (With your explanations) 1. Miggy & Clemens. If you had to know wether a rookie would become a HOF, this at bat was the best example I can think of. 2.Moises Moist Alou. It’s true he did moist his hands with urine. 3.Jeff Torborg and if you wanan get technical Brandon Hyde. Nice play here Piazza31. Hyde was a brief manager before they hired McKeon. 5.Johan Santana in the Rule 5 draft. 4.UGGLA. Poor parents. Do you think they named him Cooley because they knew Uggla would be problematic. 6. Juan Pierre, because he was the reverse Barroid Bonds. Yep. Five weeks in and I think I have a feel for what posters resemble what Marlin players. @SirFishFan Gotta go with Derek Lee. Solid player who contributes has a lot of upside but needs to believe in himself more. Striking out is ok sometimes. @Michael Gary Sheffield. Guys a stud probably the best hitter in Marlins history. @Piazza31 Who else, Mike Piazza. HOF not the best catcher but his bat was elite. @hovertical I’m a bit reserved on this one but right now Im thinking Moises Alou. Guy is underrated but he’s probably the scariest out to get of all the great Marlins. Need to see more though. @pollythewog Jazz because he doesn’t show up & is emotional. If others want comps then you gotta play.- Marlins Trivia Pursuit #5
Did they explain why they sent Johan to the Twins? They had some pretty good players around that time.- The Jazz Tracker
Jazz had an 0-5 night Hes 8-45 .178 .AVG 4R 1RBI 0HR 7BB in 12- The Jazz Tracker

The band dressed in BLACK is singing “Hate, Hate, Hate. It’s symbolic, good is bad, bad is good. Anyway, I see your opinion it’s all good.- The Jazz Tracker
I’ll agree with that. I already said that was a bad trade for many reasons.- The Jazz Tracker
My very first post right after I changed my screen name was a silly attempt to stir up Polly as he does first. I think I quoted him and said “ You like my name Polly?” I started this thread for two reasons. One, so other threads won’t get derailed and two, dispel the embellished claims that Jazz is a superstar. Some here, stir up the pot and run away if you haven’t noticed. It may sound corny but the Jazz Tracker takes away and/or reveals any bias. It’s up for the viewers to decide who is or isn’t biased really.- The Jazz Tracker
if you read the Admin’s post it was more about Iowa than it was about Jazz, same with my comment.- The Jazz Tracker
The playoffs worry me. Jazz could have an Aaron Boone miracle then we’re all doomed.- The Jazz Tracker
Lazzy earned his pay for 2023 not for 2024. Arbitration settled around 2.5M mainly because he couldn’t stay healthy. Look, you can field crap players with above average WAR just for being a full time player with positional range. Jazz could be batting .230 and still rank well above league average this year. SFG (C) Patrick Bailey has worse batting sats (372 AB .237 AVG 7HR 42RBI .639 OPS) but ranks 5 spots higher than Jazz at 4.1WAR. You will also lose badly on that 3% half as good as Jazz claim if Agustin does succeed as a catcher because like Bailey it’s about position and staying healthy. At the end of the day, GMs prefer paying for upside and offense rather than fielders & players like Jazz who have average career flatlining stats. That’s why trading Jazz was the right move. I think we got Dayvison for Puk not Jazz. Sorry but your boy is overrated.- The Jazz Tracker
Lazzzy went 1-4 & 1R wedged in between Judge & Stanton. Last 11: 8-40 .200 AVG 3R 1RBI 0HR 7BB. Only one extra base hit (2B) in 40. This year, Jazz has fewer HRs per at bat (22.4) than last year (18.5) reaching only 24HRs at seasons end. That’s a far cry from the 40 homers his flatteries tell us. If I could model his stats in the last 4 yrs it would be a straight line with very little upward or downward trajectory confirming a continued puerperal bog of stench.- The Jazz Tracker
If you add the stats, hype, talent & character it’s pretty fair comp. Melvin stayed healthy throughout his career that’s the only diff. I was going to do a draft fantasy summary on Jazz comparing those two. I imagine the same talking points from the fantasy gurus on Melvin was probably eerie similar with Jazz “Next year is his year, He’s the next superstar” these kind of cliches stem from emotional feelings forgetting that some of the greats did more with less. Jazz & Upton stats look identical and consistently average across the board year in and year out. Truly, if Jazz doesn’t change his identity whatever that is, he stats will never reflect his potential.- The Jazz Tracker
Jazz had his best game in 2 weeks going 1-2 2BB 0R 0RBI 10 games: 7-36 .194 AVG 2R 1RBI 0HR 7BB. Jazz is modern day BJ Upton. - Marlins Trivial Pursuit #6
