1. He has a high OBS though and his power numbers there would be ungodly. Either way if they pull out of the AJ sweepstakes, then just TTFN and move on. I think Dunn could fit interesting for them but dont they have a log-jam in the outfield as it is? 866808 By the way, the O's front office has long said they feel that offense was easier to acquire via trade or free agency than pitching. That's been a pretty consistent philosophy for them. We also have some pitching depth in the minors (including some potential No. 1 or No. 2 guys like Penn) but very little as far as offense. 867378 And that's why they will always be the bitches of the Yankees and Red Sox in the NL East. And for nearly a decade their "consistent philosophy" has resulted in them "consistently" not making the playoffs. 867677 Firstly, the Orioles, Red Sox and Yankees are in the American League. At least, that's what I saw in the papers. Didn't come here to fight, just hoping to have an adult conversation. If you can't join in, just don't read what I have to say. The current front office hasn't been in place for decade, only since 2003. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but that is what they believe. That is why they are considering adding offense when pitching seems to be the more obvious need.

Believe me, we'd find room for Dunn. By the way, the O's front office has long said they feel that offense was easier to acquire via trade or free agency than pitching. 3. I want to kill Beatie and Flanagan. OMG like Denny Bautista was the best pitching prospect, but the Orioles would gladly give him up for the chance to have......Jason Grimsley. Now Kline stays to blow more games while a starter who could have helped the O's down the stretch is released. This has to be a joke. Al Leiter and Steve Kline are the kind of guys you DFA, not someone who is pitching terrific. Wow, I was in a good mood before I heard this. 867229 Most people considered Bautista the org's best prospect, but I don't think people within the org (who were working with him every day) ever did. There's a reason two teams have given up on the guy. Baldwin had been effective, but we're talking about 22 innings of work in mop-up duty. It wouldn't surprise me if he makes it through waivers and remains with the Orioles. They kept Kline because they will try and package him in any trades. Don't be surprised if somebody wants him. He's a lefty and had been very effective before coming to Baltimore and apparently losing his mind. In the end, this deal isn't going to go through because the Marlins absolutly HAVE to erase the Lowell contract from their books.
4. So his .241/.309/.398 in 133 AB vs RHP, with just 12 RBI but 28 K while Surhoff hits .290/.317/.420 in 100 AB can't be the reason? Darn, we're so stupid. Even though the two have virtually the same amount of ABs vs RHP, it must mean that Bigbie is being dealt. 865693 Bigbie's lefty/righty numbers have been strange this year and not typical of his career numbers. Stats aside, Bigbie would normally be in the lineup tonight. I'm not saying it means a trade is 15 minutes away, just saying it raises eyebrows in Baltimore that he is out of the lineup for a second straight day. Take it for what it's worth.
5. If Bigbie-for-Redman is a legit possibiltiy, it wouldn't surprise me if the Orioles did that directly and said the heck with the Burnett/Lowell package. 865587 No we were talking about the 3 way deal. 865648 I know, but if the Pirates want Bigbie and want to deal Redman.......the Orioles might go that route. Baltimore could use Redman as well and he'd come without Lowell in tow.
6. Does he normally play everyday? (Sorry I dont know much about the O's) 865649 He is essentially an everyday player. He would figure to be in the lineup tonight vs. a RHP. BJ Surhoff is playing in his place. Yes, it raises eyebrows that he isn't in the lineup for a second straight day.

8. That is wishful thinking by Rosenthal, given how much he is against this Marlins team. That is so onesided it is ridiculous. Yeah Penn is a top prospect but Burnett is worth so much more. This was reported earlier as well and got chewed out by all of us here. 865566 Sorry, didn't see the previous mention of that deal. That's funny, everyone in Baltimore thinks Rosenthal hates the Orioles. He wrote at the Baltimore Sun for years and has been tough on the O's ever since. It seems the Marlins are single-minded in that anyone who gets Burnett absolutely has to take Lowell along with. For the Orioles, who have Mora at third base, it just doesn't make sense.
9. For what it's worth.......Comcast Sports Net in the Balmer/DC area reported (via Rosenthal) a possible alternate deal at about 6:30 p.m.: O's get Burnett Perisho Marlins get Julio Penn Kline Lowell and how much money is exchanged to take Lowell is the obvious sticking point in this matter. I've also heard versions that have the Marlins taking both Kline AND Steve Reed (who was DFA earlier this week). Ponson has also been mentioned. Both teams want the other team to take their expensive dead weight off their hands.
10. Just got back from my 2nd trip to Richmond and while listening to a lot of Baltimore sports radio regarding the deal, three things are evident: 1) They like the deal 2) They'd rather not lose Bigbie 3) They think their ripping us off They all want us to take Ponson and Kline too because they suck and they feel like we're dumb enough to do it. 862507 I'll defend my fellow Orioles fans here. You're right in that most of us like the deal. I don't think it's a matter of thinking the Marlins are "dumb" and I think most O's fans think it's a reasonable deal, not a ripoff for either side. Julio has frustrated us for years, alternating between dominant and awful. The emergence of rookie RHP Chris Ray has made him expendable. Most of us like Bigbie, but there are three OF prospects in the system (Fiorentino, Markakis and Majewski) who have roughly the same ceiling as Bigbie. We also have a lineup that is heavy on lefty hitters, which makes losing Bigbie less painful. As for Penn, he's highly-regarded, but not as much as Cabrera. If Cabrera is dealt, there will be rioting in the streets of Baltimore.
