Latest Rumors...
Are we still discussing a Red Sox/Marlins deal? People are in denial, I understand that, but it's getting downright silly. Everytime some tout for the Red Sox calls the Marlins FO stupid, or their position stupid, IT REINFORCES WHY THE MARLINS WON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THE BEANTOWN BULLIES. 877583 Has anyone actually called the Marlins FO stupid? Or are you inferring this from some inane ramblings on a message board or an out of context quote? Also, as long as you have fully scouted the players involved, why the hell would you care what another FO thinks of you? That's juvenile and if the team I was a fan of refused to cover all their bases in the trade market because of personal animosity I'd be upset.

With Clement out...
Can the fish swindle more from the Boston Red Sox? I know he cant fill the spot of Clement and Arroyo if they traded one. But, wouldnt this make them more desperate to pick up a top notch pitcher to replace him. AJ is pretty close to exactly how Clement is really and honestly. Both good solid hard throwing pitchers that had control problems early on. Since the fish turned down Sanchez and Arroyo. Perhaps the Sox will today step up for more then Arroyo and Sanchez. Thoughts all? 876262 It's nice that you waited about 14 hours before wondering if you could use what could have been a career ending injury in order to get another prospect, but it appears Clement will be okay and will actually travel back to Boston with the team today.

Peter Gammons 7/25
Well, there's another rumor now floating around that the Sox have moved on from Florida, since they will not return calls and are talking to Philly and Texas about 3-way deal in which Soriano and Wagner end up in Boston, with Arroyo, Sanchez, and Shoppach going to Philly--Philly sending Padilla and prospects ontop Texas.

Peter Gammons 7/25
As for Sanchez, the Red Sox have been on a major PR campaign to build awareness and interest in the guy, and for just that reason, one has to be suspicious why they are so quick to jettison the guy if their avowed plan is to cut payroll over the next few years. He's THE GUY they want to get rid of. Beware. 1--The Sox PR department has pimped Anibel recently. 2--Please link to one quote from the Sox FO where they vow to cut salary in the coming years.

Ponson traded
Kinda makes you wonder about giving him that fat contract to match his wasitline, don't it?

Ponson traded
That's a lot of money for a DH who's OPS is close to Sosa's. 871737 I'd rather pay it to Nevin than to a starting pitcher with an ERA over 6 871740 Well, I mean if Nevin was the ONLY guy in the entire major leagues that you could trade for, then yes, I get it...

Well, they have no room for Lowell now. Maybe the one thing we've haven't about is this: The O's simply don't know what they're doing and don't know how to react in a pennant race. 871721 Why because they traded one of the worst starting pitchers in the majors for Phil Nevin? They are going to make another deal, probably for Jeff Weaver. Even if they dont, Nevin is an uppgrade to the offense and Penn or John Maine would be an upgrade over Ponson. 871725 Jeff Weaver? Check out his numbers versus the Sox. And the Yankees, another patient team, will likely fare just as well. And how, exactly, does Nevin help the offense? Where's he gonna play? Over Palmiero and his nearly 850 OPS? Nevin's OPS is like 710...lower than Jeff Conine.

ESPN is saying that this trade kills the AJ deal. Odd.

Which means the Burnett trade will happen very soon. EDIT: Or not. Confusing. The O's want a starter and then trade one away?

New Three Way Deal?
wow just wow. why are you including some chump in a deal that was just DFA'd!!! im so thankful you are just a poster on this board and not in the FO. Not to comment on this specific trade, but guys that are DFA'd are then traded all the time. Jay Payton and Brett Boone frfom the last 2 weeks come to mind.

Deal on hold
The Red Sox sent Kevin Youkilis down to AAA today, which means he cannot be recalled for 10 days. That likely means there will be no Mueller-Romero deal.
