Will we get Vlad?
Sorianofan,When was this article published in ESPN magazine about Vlad? Some time between march to june of 2003, it would have to be, I read it senior year before graduating. Oof - that was before the 2003 season even started. An entire season = lots of times for things to change He could be disappointed with falling out of the wild card race so soon and missing the playoffs yet again. He might be upset with the San Juan-Montreal development. A myriad of things that we don't and won't know of might have occurred. The final verdict will come soon.

Will we get Vlad?
My god this thread is officially a dead Vlad thread. Number two killed. :banghead Better start another. Babies.... :banghead :angry Nah, nah, the official pinned one is still clean If you just ignore the bashing and focus on the arguments being presented, it's not too bad.

LOL I still like the dark horse - it shall remain until the deal is finalized. Don't forget that we still haven't made an offer.

I took it as dark horse in the sense that we're powerful and sneaking up on everyone.

Will we get Vlad?
Give me a break Sorianofan. Its one thing to have an opinion but at least have supporting facts for it. I can just out right state the Reds are going to sign Vlad but that would be stupid because there are no facts or signs posting to this. But there is to Vlad going to the Marlins. If you want to say Vlad isnt going to the Marlins be my guest but at least have some valid reasons for it. They do have supporting facts: Sorianofan feels that Vladimir wants more money and that the Marlins won't be able to come up with it. This comes from an ESPN article they read which talked about how happy Vlad was in Montreal. When Vlad rejected Montreal's offer, Sorianofan saw it as a sign that he was in it for more $$$$. I don't agree with it, and I have my reasons, which I've previously posted. Difference of opinion is what makes this world go round, mister.

Updated Buzz on Bourbon Street (from ESPN) regarding the Orioles: Not done yet: Several sources said the Orioles were bearing down Sunday on signing both Ivan Rodriguez and Miguel Tejada, who agreed to a six-year, $72 million deal with Baltimore. It's believed the Orioles offered Rodriguez a three-year, $30-million contract that includes major deferrals. ... Two baseball men who spoke with the Orioles on Sunday say they were told that the Orioles could sign both Rodriguez and Tejada and still have room to sign Vladimir Guerrero. -- Jayson Stark

As Meetings Rage On, Marlins Target Vlad
I would leave Cabs in the 4th spot. Y would you move Cabs back into the 5th spot when he was clearly our most productive clean up hitter last year in the playoffs. Why? Because Mike Lowell was our most productive clean up hitter all year and he was out of the lineup until the World Series.

Will we get Vlad?
agree with Dagreatone stop hating on the marlins and its good to see someone put u in ur place!! so on behalf of us at the forums ..go back to the yankee boards loser Biggest A-hole= SorianoFan I'm not really a Vlad believer and I am still unsure if we will sign him but what does it take to see that the Marlins are in contention to sign him. Gammons said the only two teams that are in the hunt for him are the Marlins and Orioles. But I think I know whats wrong. Your just mad that the Yankees didnt sign him and that the team that beat you in the World Series might just do it. So f*** off and let us have some fun. AHHHHH i cant stand this kid!!!! anyways listen theres no arguement to tejada its a fact his deal is worth 9 mill! its done ! no maybe ..second have you not read articles on espn or any web sites or what members have posted about the possibiltiy of vlad coming here?? u seem to be in your own world of neglection and seem to be the only person who doesnt see the marlins as the front runners for vlad! hes not all about the money and he will wind up here for 13 or 14 mill nothing more unless the deal is backloaded..stop being a yankee fan boy please and read the facts about vlad b4 u go around trying to make us feel bad All of you: GROW UP! Not everything is one-sided! Learn to appreciate some intelligent discussion -- just because it's not what you think doesn't make it wrong or doesn't make the person a "loser." You guys are the losers for being so damn immature about it. As of right now, no one is correct. Sure, my whole heart believes, but nothing is set in stone until this happens: :deal

Will we get Vlad?
I must put on my teal-colored glasses and disagree with you. As reported today on MLB Radio, Vlad is a shy guy, whose main confidante is not his agent but his mother. Various Vlad believers have said all along that Vlad might be feeling ARod-like sentiments about being a star player on a losing team. These guys might seem like they're all about the money, and whether or not they are is really not for us to decide, but deep down inside every major leaguer wants a ring, especially if you're one of the great ones (see: Barry Bonds' anguish in 2002). We are the defending World Champions. We will be contenders in 2004. We will have Vladimir Guerrero with us! I would love to see Vlad not in the AL East or the american league, believe me. However, nothing you have said indicates he's going to Florida. He left a contending team (the expos who contended until the last two weeks pretty much), because he didn't like the contract. He is close to his mother, and she lives in montreal, and he has talked about loving montreal. So it is my opinion that Vlad's about the money. Can the Marlins stretch it to acquire a 15 million dollar a year player? I find that unlikely. Can Baltimore do it? Who had the highest payroll in 1998? This debate can go back and forth for hours. Both sides will make valid points, and nothing will be certain until Vladimir accepts or rejects the offer we will hopefully be making soon. However, many things point to Florida. You cannot compare the Expos to the Marlins, especially now that the Expos lost Javier Vazquez. We are contenders, and I believe Vlad wants to contend. Furthermore, Miami is close to the Dominican Republic, which is the real home of Vlad and his family. Miami is also a predominantly Latin city, which is favorable to the Guerreros over Baltimore or Montreal. These are just speculations, but all the arrows seem to be pointing down here. (Thanks for the good wishes regarding MIT -- the decision has already been made on their part, it's just a matter of when the letter arrives. I'm a nervous wreck until then!)

Mets, Yanks, Dodgers, Tigers, Braves, Orioles out. Come on Vlad! Come to Miami! Orioles not fully out yet. They've still got money to spend.

Will we get Vlad?
To clear up the rumble on exactly what Tejada is making, I quote ESPN News Services: Tejada receives a $12 million signing bonus, with $4 million payable in 2004 and $2 million each in 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2011. He receives yearly salaries of $3 million in 2004, $9 million in 2005, $10 million in 2006, $12 million in 2007, $13 million in 2008 and $13 million in 2009. The entire package is 6-year, $72 million which does average out to $12 million a year, but as you can see it's not exactly broken down like that.

I must disagree. The expos weren't offering what Vlad thinks he's worth. If Tejada is 12 million, Vlad was most definitely not offered what he was worth by the expos. Its about the money. I must put on my teal-colored glasses and disagree with you. As reported today on MLB Radio, Vlad is a shy guy, whose main confidante is not his agent but his mother. the post above about Redman possibly headed to Texas reminds me that while I'm not crazy about dealing Big Red, that's an extra 3 million that could go toward trying to get Guerrero. Still, I'd rather them not deal him unless it's for the express purpose of freeing up $$ for Vlad. Heh, we could do a Ruth-esque deal. Redman to Texas for cash! Wouldn't that be something?

As Meetings Rage On, Marlins Target Vlad
Vlad in a Marlins' uniform puts us as the favorites to win the NL. Do you honestly think that our being the defending World Champions and having maybe one of the best all-around hitters in the game is actually going to swing the media in our favor? C'mon, we're the Marlins...

With incentives, he could make $65 million. Here's the direct quote: Free-agent shortstop Miguel Tejada has agreed to a six-year, $54 millon deal with the Baltimore Orioles, reports ESPN's Peter Gammons. With incentives, the former A's star could make $65 million.

Marlins after free-agent closer Benitez
I think in the end Loop will sign a 1-2yr deal worth 1.5 million. Wow, you think he'll go that low? Edcanes said in one of his posts that Looper's asking price was too high and he'd remain with the multitudes of pitchers out on the market for a while. Maybe he'll lower it, though.... you never know.
-
Marlins after free-agent closer Benitez
Like I said before anything over 1.5 is a waste on Benitez. He's been pitching at The MLB level for 10 years, he has showed clear signs of decline and is not worth any serious money when the next Chad Fox could be anywhere for a Minor League Contract. I have always thought that a good relief pitcher can be found anywhere at a cheap price and if you sign those guys to ML deals, then that's a no risk opportunity. Not giving Benitez a million or so. Good point - I agree :thumbup Does that go for Looper as well?
