Meanwhile, two sources close to Vladimir Guerrero predicted the free-agent outfielder would land with the Marlins. While Guerrero's asking price would seem to be far beyond the Marlins' reach, a high-ranking executive from another club said the Marlins have been asking around about his health and contract requirements.

 

Guerrero reportedly turned down a five-year, $70 million offer from Montreal, but as much as half of that money would have been backloaded into the final two years. The Baltimore Orioles have made their offer to Guerrero, but they were believed to be focusing more on shortstop Miguel Tejada and former Marlins catcher Pudge Rodriguez.
