The Official Vladimir Guerrero Thread

Guys I'm on the Vlad bandwagon. As I said earlier, if the Orioles overpaid for Tejada our chances would go way up to get him. Well, the orioles overpaid giving him almost 11 million a year.

I wanna see Vlad in Teal and Black.

Welcome aboard, you doubted for so long. Welcome again! :D

GREAT VLAD NEWS!

Miggy Tejada is reported to have signed with the O's for 6 years 65 million. It was just reported.

ESPN.com has it at 6-years, $54 million.

ESPN.com has it at 6-years, $54 million. Well thats what MLB Radio reported.

With incentives, he could make $65 million. Here's the direct quote:

Free-agent shortstop Miguel Tejada has agreed to a six-year, $54 millon deal with the Baltimore Orioles, reports ESPN's Peter Gammons. With incentives, the former A's star could make $65 million.

the post above about Redman possibly headed to Texas reminds me that while I'm not crazy about dealing Big Red, that's an extra 3 million that could go toward trying to get Guerrero. Still, I'd rather them not deal him unless it's for the express purpose of freeing up $$ for Vlad.

Heh, we could do a Ruth-esque deal. Redman to Texas for cash! Wouldn't that be something?

Mets, Yanks, Dodgers, Tigers, Braves, Orioles out.

Come on Vlad! Come to Miami!

Come on Vlad! Come to Miami!

Orioles not fully out yet. They've still got money to spend.

Retarded move by the O's...they hugely overpaid, but maybe they have so much money it doesnt even matter.

Exact details of how the deal is broken down are posted in the "Will We Get Vlad?" poll thread.

Updated Buzz on Bourbon Street (from ESPN) regarding the Orioles:

Not done yet: Several sources said the Orioles were bearing down Sunday on signing both Ivan Rodriguez and Miguel Tejada, who agreed to a six-year, $72 million deal with Baltimore. It's believed the Orioles offered Rodriguez a three-year, $30-million contract that includes major deferrals. ... Two baseball men who spoke with the Orioles on Sunday say they were told that the Orioles could sign both Rodriguez and Tejada and still have room to sign Vladimir Guerrero. -- Jayson Stark

Dec. 13 -- The Orioles' competitors for Guerrero are increasing or decreasing depending on whom you ask. The Dodgers, in need of a productive outfielder, traded for Florida right fielder Juan Encarnacion on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Guerrero's former manager, Felipe Alou, said the Giants are not among the suitors for Guerrero. "We have not discussed his name currently about being with us," Alou said. "At least not yet." Also, the Yankees appear to be close to finally signing right fielder Gary Sheffield, which would essentially take them out of the sweepstakes. The Marlins could be a dark horse because they have money available after moving Encarnacion, Derrek Lee and not re-signing Rodriguez. Florida management is apparently pondering whether to make a creative offer for Guerrero to come to South Florida. A new ballpark and a large Dominican population could be attractions for Guerrero . Still, Orioles officials are feeling better about their chances of landing a target by the conclusion of the meetings. More teams are locking up players through trades and occupying salary, meaning the Orioles could be one of the few teams able to afford Guerrero and Pudge Rodriguez.

Why dark horse? We should be a white horse that a blind man can see if if it is us against Baltimore!!

Sneaking up on who? It is us against Baltimore. Dark house is last week s***, but we're in the running now.

LOL :)

I still like the dark horse - it shall remain until the deal is finalized.

Don't forget that we still haven't made an offer.

Not true, the Marlins have been in contact with Vlad's people and starting offers must spoken of at that time in order to start negotiations. Vlad won't even talk in person with the O's 2 GMs.
