4/29 -- Dodgers @ Marlins
Can we just start the game in the second inning, maybe pitch a reliever in the first when Miller starts? lol You wonder why this guy does this every game.....its very frustrating :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

Hey Remember When ESPN.com said Mark Hendrickson...
I don't mind them making fun of us. The thing that I hate is when we are in contention late in the season and they decide to jump on the bandwagon like they have been calling it all season long. If you're off in the beginning, stay off. Kruk jumped on us already. Nearly fell off the chair as he said earlier tonight, if we get our starting pitching worked out, we'll be a really good team.

4/23 -- Marlins @ Braves
Just started watching and Miller is already worrying me. You're lucky its been heart attack city.

4/23 -- Marlins @ Braves
This guy has to go down. If they don't send him to the pen at least, they are doing the team a disservice. They got him 3 runs, and only have a lead because of their own doing, not because this guy can pitch.

Here we go again..... :banghead What do his teammates think ? I wonder when they start to revolt, and ask about Miller going down ?
-
4/23 -- Marlins @ Braves
Will they have the nutz to send him down after this game ?

4/23 -- Marlins @ Braves
This guy just needs to go....why are they waiting. We screwed up the deal, just admit it and send Volstad up. Why be pigheaded about it ?

Mr. Volstad, you have a phone call. :notworthy

Hell has frozen over: John Kruk says Marlins can be very good
I never thought I would hear these words. Paraphrased : "If the Marlins can get their starting pitching straightened out, they have a chance to be a very good team" Needless to say, I practically fell out of my chair (I turned during the half-inning)

Ideas for names
Bacardi Bowl at the Orange Bowl Bacacrdi Ballpark at the Orange Bowl Orange Bacardi Bowl Orange "You glad I didn't sell the naming rights to Tropicana" Bowl Florida Orange's Bowl I like the Orange Bacardi Bowl tho- you can conviently ignore Bacardi in it and keep calling it the orange bowl- like everybody's going to do anyway. Throw the names "Orange" and "Bowl" out. I know it had tons of history, but I'm not sure I want it as part of our stadium. The most I'll budge is "Marlins Stadium at Orange Bowl Plaza" or whatever. I don't think people will call the new ballpark "The Orange Bowl" unless it's in the name. Isn't part of the overall deal (not really part of the Marlins deal) to turn land next to the Marlins park into a small soccer stadium (25,000 seats) and call it "The New Orange Bowl", where High School football & track events as well as soccer will be played ?

Ideas for names
if Samson-ite or Loria are in charge of the naming of the stadium be prepared for something... "flowery" Loria will find someway to make it artsy-fartsy

Ideas for names
I've been mentioning Bacardi Ballpark for a while now. I like it. But I would have to guess that the lead would have to go to either DHL or BK. I wouldn't mind either. Non-bought naming rights (Highly unlikely), I go with "The Ballpark in Marlington" Bacardi Park :thumbup What about Carnival Cruise Lines, aren't they headquartered in Miami? Carnival Park? Would that really change peoples images of the us?

Hold on, people
Knowing ESPN, they would snub us and we will be stuck on FSN I can almost guarantee it. In 2004 they snubbed our opening game, even though we were the reigning champions. THE ONLY CHAMPS TO NOT START ON SUNDAY OPENING NIGHT or IN JAPAN (the Red Sox this year started in Japan) since at least 2003. Angels had opening night 2003 Red Sox had opening night 2005 White Sox had opening night 2006 St Louis had opening night 2007 Red Sox opening Day in japan 2008 Lets face it, we could win 5 World Series in a row and ESPN would still hate on us. Last night Karl Ravech did not host BBTN, and we got coverage, but when he hosts, we are either just barely mentioned, or they don't even mention our game. The man just wants our franchise to disappear. I wish someone in the media down here had the testicles to interview him and get an answer.

2008 Forbes rankings.....Marlins make $ 35.6 million this year
Forbes makes these numbers up. They have no idea. I love how the second most profitable enterprise is valued among the lowest valued teams by Forbes..... I've always thought that strange too. Then again most of the country has no idea a new stadium is coming. The PR people did a lousy job with getting the word out to the national media.

2008 Forbes rankings.....Marlins make $ 35.6 million this year
NEW YORK (AP)?The New York Yankees? value increased to $1.306 billion over the past year, according to the annual estimates by Forbes magazine, a rise of 9 percent over the past year. The New York Mets were second at $824 million and the Boston Red Sox third at $816 million, the magazine said Wednesday. After that, there was a big gap to the Los Angeles Dodgers ($694 million) and the Chicago Cubs ($642 million). The Yankees were listed by Forbes as having $327 million in revenue last year and a $47.3 million operating loss, up from a $25.2 million loss on revenue of $302 million the previous year. Forbes? revenue figure is after deducting revenue sharing payments, which the Yankees estimate at about $92 million. The team also paid approximately $24 million in luxury tax, which is reflected in the operating loss. The Mets had an operating profit of $32.9 million, according to Forbes. Boston, according to Forbes, had a $19.1 million operating loss. Both New York teams are planning to move into new ballparks in 2009, which should significantly increase their revenues. At the bottom, the three teams with the lowest values were Florida ($256 million), Tampa Bay ($290 million) and Pittsburgh ($292 million). Forbes estimated the Marlins had an operating profit of $35.6 million, the Rays $29.7 million and the Pirates $17.6 million. Washington had the highest estimated operating profit at $43.7 million. Forbes said the average operating profit in the majors was $16 million. Forbes rankings for 2008 They claim that the Nationals now are the most profitable team, followed by the Marlins

What do you do with Andrew Miller
leave him in the rotation and watch him improve. i didn't get the memo that this team was competing to win the world series this year and couldn't tolerate the growing pains of its young aces. 2008: building the future. Then don't charge MLB prices for games. :mis2 I believe you should be trying, and I doubt Freddi & his staff, have told the guys, you are not gonna win, just try your best. He wants to win, and expects to win games.

Miller impresses veteran Astros
Didn't Johnson play for Montreal before Seattle ? :whistle

Just listening to the guy on 790 on the way back home
I have lived in south florida , central florida , and north florida pretty every sports radio station in florida sucks and of course, its just here in Florida that radio sports talk sucks :whistle It couldn't be that nationally syndicated programmes also suck ? Take one overnight show that regularly refers to the Marlins as playing in downtown Miami, and that insists (to the point of argument) that Huizenga is still the owner, and for sure knows that the Marlins have the worst bullpen in the majors (they insisted before the season started it was just horrible, and we would lose a lot of games this season, just like the bullpen lost us so many games last year) Does it really take much effort to look up the answers ? Its not just locally in So Fla or in Fla in general, its EVERYWHERE the quality of sports talk radio is just crappy, compared to 10 years ago.

Marlins get ESPN Baseballs Front Page!
I am amazed how superficial their knowledge of the Marlins is, especially Orestes, but then I remember Destrade and the rest of them are either reading off a screen or have an associate producer feeding them in their ear. Talking heads are talking heads. "All they can do is hit homeruns"..."with that pitching staff"... how about the bullpen? How about guys getting on base before the homeruns? How about some of the great D we've seen ? These things don't happen in a vacuum and either does winning six out of seven. Orestes Destrade is nothing but a token to make ESPN look politically correct (and I'm not as down on him as it sounds, but over the last year he's stopped talking about "baseball" and is now just another suit on stage. He's like a piece of furniture from Rooms to Go. Gee, they won four straight...thanks. How about they lead the division by a game and a half and have most of the week? How about while their starting pitching has been shaky Nolasco was making his first start in almost a year, Scott Olsen and Mark Hendrickson dazzled in their last starts...etc. I'm not talking about this BBTN piece or the Marlins coverage or lack thereof, but since Harold Reynolds was banished (If the stories are true for reasons that warranted his removal) BBTN has been in this shallow death spiral into pure mediocrity. It's sad really. No doubt the sh*t hit the fan somewhere in ESPN when Jacobs comments found their way to someone's desk. And as usual their answer is to be a superficial and mocking as they can while pretending to play it straight. Get some real baseball guys back on and in those seats and the improvement would be over night. I agree with you 100% 2003......I used the DVR to record BBTN the other night when they just swept the Nationals, and ours was the only game not mentioned at all. Its as if ESPN so dismisses the Marlins they want to believe they just don't exist. :thumbdown

Marlins get ESPN Baseballs Front Page!
Don't forget that Orestres was a Marlin. I've even heard him defend "his fish" every once in a while. Not very often as of late. :confused I missed Jacobs words for ESPN, does anyone have a quote or link ?
