The Marlins have the best Television announcers in Baseball
I'm not a fan of Craig...but I enjoy listening to Rich and Tommy. They do a great job. I agree. Tommy & Rich are great, Craig.....well not so great. :confused

Fans of other teams thrive off the low attendance at Dolphins Stadium.
Well, I am glad you like it here. When people say that we have no fans and our stadium is always empty, bla bla bla... I just laugh it off. Ignore them. Anyways, people talk about us, yet there's other stadiums that seem to look pretty empty as well (Pittsburgh, for example). This is a pretty tired topic on these boards, so expect people to say something about it. When I bring up Pittsburgh people usually shut up. They even have a new stadium (some call it the best of the new ones) and still 8,000 to 10,000 a night. They have ZERO excuses in Pittsburgh. If you checK Pittsburgh is ahead of our team. not by much but ahead Everyone is ahead of the Marlins :whistle But in Pitt they have one of the most gorgeous stadiums, if not the nicest in PNC Park. I'm not saying it should be sellouts every night but they shouldn't be so close to battling the Marlins for the "Crappo Fan Base" Award every year. Everyone on the board here thinks the panacea for this franchise is the new stadium, but Pittsburgh is setting the example that if these owners plan on making huge profits in the new park, they'd best get a great team in here. This town is even more intolerant of mediocracy than the Pittsburgh fan base that has 4 and 5 generations of a fan base to draw from.

What about the excuse of a poor front office that hasn't put a winning team on the field in what seems like a decade? The reason they're bad comes down to them not drafting well. Their scouting department is horrible. They've had high draft picks for years and years and haven't produced any talent from it. I don't blame the fans at all. Can't completely say that about the Marlins. We don't have that excuse. Maybe we haven't been the most winning franchise but yes not nearly as bad as the Pirates. They just downright stink most years.

How has Tampa been able to pass us on the talent ?
The Rays have been in the enviable position of picking the best amateur player in draft for a number of years and have done well with it although they are far from flawless and not without their badly conceived deals. Every front office has its hits and misses but perennially picking first has given them a leg up on the rest of baseball. I guess we can't envy them too much, this will be their 1st season ever with a winning record (I think by now most of us believe this will happen). But it will be hurtful if they go on a run like Atlanta did and leave the Marlins in their wake for the next 10 years. It will hurt TV revenues in the state if they attract more fans, and our TV revenue across the state goes down due to them attracting and keeping more fans. If they show the kind of loyalty to fans & players that so far this management has disdained, in the long run they will be the best franchise and the Marlins can kiss any support within the state/legislature for future needs as a bye bye. It will be Rays 1st, and Marlins 2nd forever. Tampa is a better sports town than Miami , their attendance for the most part has been marginally better than the Marlins if the Rays conitnue to do well I suspect they routinely average between 26-30k a game . This weekend was the first weekend that I actually had to park at an off site parking lot at the Trop see the Marlins play. It is now, it didn't used to be. :banghead I also think it helps that its the Cubs they are playing. Probably ? the fans were rooting for the Cubbies. We know that happens when the Red Sox & Yanks play there. We play the cubs as well I doubt we would draw 31k on a tuesday , I am going to the series in august I suspect only on saturday will we draw over 24k. Hence the reason I agree Tampa is now a better sports town. Even 5 years ago we could count on Phillies, Mets and Cubbie fans giving us 30k+ games, but even those folks don't go to the games anymore. Any explaination for it ? Can it be the reason even Marlins fans won't go ?

It's Andrew Friedman. I'm not sure if his official title is GM or President of Baseball Operation, but nonetheless, he's the guy in control of the front office, and yes, he does a very good job. Their scouting department is supurb. As for the Marlins, I think our drafting/scouting isn't as good as it used to be. In terms of young pitching depth, we might have the edge over the Rays, but they have better position players for sure. Last year they drafted Matt Dominguez a third baseman with the first pick, just thought you should know. True, I forgot about Dominguez. Then again no one ever hears about him. Its been silence for over a year. That is one of the problems I have with the Miami Herald, it ignores the Farm almost completely. I also miss the old days when The Sporting News has extensive coverage of everyones Minor League teams.

Amazingly the Rays have improved each year in player development since they let Dan Jennings go, oh wait he's the Marlins head of player development  :banghead

Hardball Times Interview with Accounting and Tax Consultant
I wonder if other teams are not using their RS dollars for their intended purpose. I think the reason the Marlins have avoided the leagues wrath so far is that they have been able to field competitive teams with a low payroll. You can't argue with sound business. On the other hand pocketing RS money and fielding low-caliber teams is going to get everyone ( fans, players, the union, owners) pissed off. My gut feeling about the Hanley deal was...meh. It seemed like alot of propoganda then and after reading this it still does. too bad, (fans, players, the union, owners and everyone else) can go cry. You can't really fault a team with only a 21.8 million dollar salary. Thats 9.5 times less than what the Yankees salary is at 209 million. We must remember if the Yankees did not have that payroll, a lot of teams would not get millions of dollars, remember one hand can't clap. Will the new stadiums of the Mets and Yankees make them think twice about the large salaries, especially if they end up out of the playoffs (both of them could this year) ? If that happens it could be disasterous for the RS monies. Also I recall that MLB was going to allow the Mets & the Yankees out of the RS or most of it, for a couple of years to help them pay for their potions of the stadiums. Is this true or not ?

In terms of young pitching depth, we might have the edge over the Rays, but they have better position players for sure. This is why I think Beinfest has a flaw in his drafting mentality. Pitching, pitching and more pitching. Well you have to draft some players at positions higher in the draft sometimes. Yes this year we drafted a position player, but it was the 1st time since Hermida, and that was 2002 right ? Once every 5 years using your 1st pick on a position player just isn't going to build the team.

Willingham to Bosox?
It takes two to trade. Never ever have the Marlins mentioned the possibility of ever trading Willingham. They never said that anyone was going to be traded, but it happens.
-
How has Tampa been able to pass us on the talent ?
Is it all just picking ahead of us year after year ? But it does seem they have the better & younger talent. The kind that will go & win in the post-season. Who is their GM and would you trade Beinfest for their guy ?

Samson's love slave. That might be the scariest thing ever said on these boards

Calling Shake N' Bake.
Not consciously. He has a tendency to stick with mediocre talent in the past. While to say this is strictly a pride issue is perhaps incorrect, it is perhaps exposing a hole in his baseball sense. Why did he stick with Olivo? Abercrombie? Julio? Now Rabelo. To a lesser extent you can consider some of the old starting pitchers: Oliver, Obermueller, Moehler, Leiter. Honestly, I was calling for Baker to replace Olivo as early as last season. Good to see someone else sees this as well as I do. Rabelo is a clear example of the FO's stubborness. Another would be Abercrombie a couple of years ago. He just isn't MLB caliber player and yet it was a while before he was sent down.

John Gall
Because Andino is a Beinfest player. hmmmm, 2nd post of this fashion. El Penguino what is going on ? See the other thread. For the record, I use this expression rather frequently to describe questionable moves that happen to follow a similar paradigm. Thanks, I shall look in the other thread. I happen to agree with you on this issue, but had been avoiding vocalizing it in a thread because of the beat-downs I have gotten before when I have given my opinions.

Trahern On The Road
Hi Pastor Scott, please let Dallas know we are all pulling for him. That was great news to hear of his victory in Nashville.

Calling Shake N' Bake.
I wholeheartedly agree that this is a move that needs to be made. Instead of this perpetual debate of McPherson vs. Cantu, here is an example where the position players at the ML level are indeed performing poorly (while I feel like Cantu is performing well). Everyone knew that Rabelo wasn't anything spectacular when the Marlins traded for him. He's clearly a Beinfest Player, so I don't expect that this move will be made anytime soon. I'd send down Rabelo and split time between Baker and Treanor, giving more starts to the better performer. When you say he's a "Beinfest guy" you aren't suggesting Beinfest will sacrifice the teams wins so his guy has more time to get better. Why ? Just to make his trade look better ? I'm asking this seriously not arguing with you, just want to see if this is what you really mean.

Dan Uggla not with team today
Well, whatever it is (bot or girl) I hope it's healthy. Congrats Dan Uggla. Now go hit a homerun Thursday for your new baby! I didn't know humans can have robot babies. :lol :notworthy It was a girl, named Alexandra.

Marlins draft Kyle Skipworth
That's nice, but it means nothing if we don't stockpile pitching Trust me, its a typical Beinfest day.....5 of 6 so far are pitchers. :confused Somebody really needs to tell Beinfest that there are 8 other positions on the field. :banghead
