The catcher's spot will be looked at closely by management, and there's a chance that a move could be made. Trade possibilities include Paul Lo Duca of the Dodgers and Jason Kendall of the Pirates. :mischief2 Hmm.

  11. News: New challenges don't bother Cabrera. As a rookie, he played third base and left field during the regular season. In the postseason, he saw action at third base and right field. Now that Juan Encarnacion has been dealt to the Dodgers, the path is clear for Cabrera to take over in right field. It's a calculated gamble, but because he is so athletic and has good (not great) speed, the Marlins see Cabrera working out nicely. (MLB.com) Fantasy Spin: Everyone saw him emerge late last season and in the postseason, and he only will get better. Now that he has a full-time starting spot, he'll get enough at-bats to approach 30 homers and 100 RBIs. wow they predict 30hr and 100rbi from the kid... :thumbup Yeah :thumbup

Oakland Acquires Catcher Michael Barrett By Associated Press Posted December 15 2003, 3:20 PM EST NEW ORLEANS -- Catcher Michael Barrett was traded to the Oakland Athletics from the Montreal Expos on Monday for a player to be named. Barrett, 27, hit .208 with 10 homers and 30 RBI in 226 at-bats last season and batted .253 in six seasons 38 homers and 193 RBIs. Oakland also acquired left-hander Frank Brooks from the New York Mets for a player to be named. He had been selected by the Mets from Pittsburgh earlier in the day with the fourth pick on the winter meeting draft for players not protected on 40-man rosters. Brooks, 25, was 3-4 with a 2.30 ERA and nine saves in 34 relief appearances at Philadelphia's Double-A Reading farm team last season, then was traded to Pittsburgh on July 20 for right-hander Mike Williams and cash. He had a 7.71 ERA in one relief appearance at Double-A Altoona, then went 2-0 with a 2.54 ERA in 16 games out of the bullpen at Triple-A Nashville. He struck out 97 in 89 1-3 innings overall last season, holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Copyright ? 2003, The Associated Press
