Is a Retractable Roof Really Necessary???

Featured Replies

I do not think that the retractable roof is SO necessary...I think we will just be fine with an open air stadium and at the same time, cut the stadium cost significantly.

What do you guys think...Voice your Opinion

Yes because that way no one has any excuses to not go to games because of a little rain. Game 3 of the WS anyone?? :mad :

I know it rains sometimes...but c'mmon....

Retractable Roof Stadium in one hand....No Marlins Baseball in the other...

To tell you the truth...if the state rebate passes all the Marlins need in $55 million and land. That is the closest we have ever come to a home. The roof is not the issue, but getting the land, $55 mil and the rebate.

I do not know the exact figure...but the cost of the roof is significant...

I think it would help us to get closer to closing the deal if they do not do the roof...

But, Again, Im not too sure about the numbers...that is just what makes sense...

It's not about a little rain now and then. It's the sun, the heat, your dehydrated kids burning under the Florida sun, it's about providing the most bang for your sports entertainment dollar.

This isn't football and their eight home games a year, this is baseball with 81 home games.

I'd rather, if it came to it, have a dome (non-retractable) than no roof.

agreed...I don't care what the purists say, if they don't like the roof go watch a game at Wrigley and Fenway. The Devil Rays have made their dome pretty nice and if it came to it, the Marlins have to have a roof. But I think we will get the moving roof.

I just like the authenticity of an open air stadium...I dont like the roof idea...Retractable if we had the money....but I dont really care...I just want a stadium

If you have ever seen a game under a roof during a hot or rainy day, you would like it. The FieldTurf they have created looks and feels like real grass and actually prevents injuries that real grass can't. The Trop isn't dark at all, in fact the Miami Arena/AAA/ODC are much darker with the lights on than the Dome in Tampa.

Ok here is how I see it....

1. Marlins need a new stadium

2. Marlins should have the stadium open

3. do not have a dome

4. and last but not least as the attnedence goes up and we have the money to get a roof and it won't hurt us financialy then we get roof and then attendence goes even higher.

I am convinced if game 3 hadn't had the rain delay the marlins would have won that game and they would of clinched the series during game 5 the game i went to. if you remember preston wilson said on the best damn sports show the marlins would win the series in 5. if they would have had a roof he would have gotten the prediction right down to the number of games. :whistle :thumbup

I like the idea of a roof. Sorry, but it is too hard to drive two plus hours to a game that isn't guaranteed to be played.

True :thumbup

In fact, the dome has so much natural light coming in, you can see plane shadows on the roof and field and get scared that a plane is coming in.

LOL...you guys talk like if this was a rain forest...LOL...C'mmon, it doesnt rain THAT MUCH!

to me the roof gives the "fair weather" fans no reason at all to not show up and that gives the FO the advantage knowing as long as they keep prices reasonable and the team competitive we will have a solid amount of people at every home game.

the excuse i have heard the most was the THREAT of rain with a roof there will not be a threat anymore...

not only rain, but the sun. It is a killer here in Florida. The shade is nice at 4 pm on a sunday afternoon, we ain't getting any younger.

thats great, ive always wanted to sit at a baseball game and be nervous during the entire game because i think a plane is coming.

i have a fear of planes crashing into buildings....9/11 would tend to do that to you.

It's funny how things come to us.

A few minutes ago I was saying that as a last resort I'd take a dome to no roof at all...but you know what all of sudden I flashedback to those air force jets flying over PPS (what seemed like 20 feet above the stadium) for the world series...what a rush!!!! It gives me chills just thinking about.

I guess I want it all.

FYI...if a plane hits the stadium...roof or not...people are STILL going to die...LOL

The roof is not a guardian angel...

the only down side i see from a roofed stadium is that the marlins lose a part of their home field advantage with the high humidity. on the upside they team will see more home runs a must for bandwagon fans who don't appreciate a pitchers duel like i do.

since when do all roofed stadiums have to be homer happy?

am i the only one who remembers the "plane hanger" aka AstroDome?

Pitchers Paradice

i was there went it happened during game 5. One of the coolest things that i have seen. i was in the upper deck almost at the top of the stadium in right field.
