Is a Retractable Roof Really Necessary???

roof = people

no roof + bad weather = no people

its simple math

The way I see it...it looks like you failed your math classes in school...

Optimism + Exciting Players + Contending Team = Fans

'98 Player Garage Sale = No Fans

If you want to get away without having a roof in South Florida, you will have to compete every year for a World Series seriously.

You dont need to win it all...just be able to compete for it...get fans excited...Management needs to show that they are really trying...

Did I say you need to win it all? All I said was you need to compete for a World Series. Make the playoffs every year, get a better lease, and the new ballpark wouldn't be needed.

Sorry...You know what I mean...I just think that when a city is optimistic about a team, the fans will come...Cloudy or Sunny...

Samson calculated some time last summer that based on their current lease, parking and concession deals the Marlins would have to sell 72,000 seats for every home game to break-even.

It would be hard to see how they could get a good enough deal (not to mention there's only 67,000 seats at PPS) to eliminate a $20 million yearly loss. The absence of naming rights $$$, parking and concession revenue, not to mention the $2 mil the PPS guys collect for the right to gouge the Fish make it impossible for them to ever make money at PPS.

They could cut their rent to zero and without the other components, they still wouldn't make a profit.

Damn the Miami Heat, the Florida Panthers and the Miami Arena. Since our "commisioners" blew half a billion dollars on 3 separate arena's in the past decades for teams with no semblance of a chance. The Heat are making the playoffs by default, they'll be out in the first round for sure. So once you get past that you see that all the things the commisioners are hesitant about are things that they did three times before. So now the team that has won 2 world championships in its short history ( with two completely different rosters, save Conine) has to suffer because the b***h ASS commish's had their thumbs up their asses for two decades before this, so thank the city of miami comissioners for there service because its there fault if the marlins end up leaving south florida.

It's not about a little rain now and then. It's the sun, the heat, your dehydrated kids burning under the Florida sun, it's about providing the most bang for your sports entertainment dollar.

This isn't football and their eight home games a year, this is baseball with 81 home games.

I'd rather, if it came to it, have a dome (non-retractable) than no roof.

I goto as many games as the next guy (prob more lol)....but one things for sure...If i were'nt a diehard fan, there would be NO WAY I would sit through that humidity and heat 20 x's a year. I wouldn't subject my kids to this heat for 3 hours.

I do it anyhow...I love the fish. But a DOME would surely make me one happy puppy and I would prob be able to convince the wife to come along.

So a roof in my opinion is very much worth it. Retractable just don't seem likely

I really dont want a roof..I have been to several stadiums with roofs and they frankly stink...They are ugly and no true baseball atmosphere...for example...Wrigley Field, Fenway, Yankee, Pac Bell...you dont hear the astrodome being one of the most exciting ball parks to watch a game at...
