SorianoFanHFW
In order to make a list throughout the season of what I think Joe Torre is doing wrong, I'm making a thread for it. There should be a good 162 posts by the time it's done! Anyway Mistake 1, March 30th 2004 Opening day roster thanks to Torre: PITCHERS (11) Kevin Brown Jose Contreras Jorge De Paula Tom Gordon Felix Heredia Mike Mussina Donovan Osborne Paul Quantrill Mariano Rivera Javier Vazquez Gabe White CATCHERS (2) John Flaherty Jorge Posada INFIELDERS (6) Miguel Cairo Tony Clark Derek Jeter Jason Giambi Alex Rodriguez Enrique Wilson OUTFIELDERS (6) Bubba Crosby Kenny Lofton Hideki Matsui Gary Sheffield Ruben Sierra Bernie Williams I'm sorry, but this spring Proctor proved he should be in the majors and that he can strike out big league batters, and he's in the MINORS for donovan osbourne? I mean, Brandon Claussen didn't even make the reds, and BOTH osbourne and depaula make the most expensive franchise on EARTH??? Either Osbourne or De Paula should be down, depending upon who is the hot hand. I know, the yankees need a "long reliever/mop up." That is no reason to put a quality arm in the minors for the antithesis of quality. Osbourne should probably be thrown into Columbus and make room for Proctor. If worst came to worst and the yankees needed to burn up some innings, Heredia can be an innings eater and quantrill has a rubber arm. Mistake 2: Opening day lineup: SS Jeter LF Matsui 3B A-ROD 1B Giambi RF Sheff C Posada DH Sierra 2B Wilson CF Lofton Batting A-Rod third isn't a bad idea while Sheff gets used to AL pitching, but Sheff is the better OBP guy and SHOULD be batting third and A Rod 5th. Matsui was 2nd in the aL in GDP in 2003 because he hits ground ball after ground ball to second base. He's groundzilla. There's no way in hell he should be batting 2nd. When williams comes back and his swing is there, I will barf if matsui still bats second. As of now, Lofton seems to be really cold and if he continues to stink it up, Crosby should get a shot. These screw ups really aren't so bad. Williams isn't back yet and Torre is yet to make a stupid bullpen move..but Torre, I'll be watching you. TarHeel324
ive been thinking about marlins vs. yankees for this year by comparing the lineups LF: Matsui vs. Conine edge: Conine CF: Lofton vs. Pierre edge: Pierre RF: Sheff vs. Cabrera edge this year: Sheff edge next year: Cabs 1B: Steroids vs. Choi edge: Roids 2B: Wilson vs. Castillo edge: are you kidding me? Obviously Luis SS/3B: Jeter/ARod vs. AGon/Lowell edge: yankees win this over everybody Starters edge: ill take Josh, AJ, Trelle, Penny, and Pavy over most other rotations
TarHeel324
yes, the yanks did improve over last year by getting Sheff and ARod, but that doesnt give them the title. theyll still have to win the ALCS, not a guarantee considering theyll have to beat out the sox
SorianoFanHFW
i don't want to get this OT, but the yankee rotation is definitely better, even now.

SorianoFanHFW
The only person worse against lefties than pettitte in the rotation is the 3 million dollar man: jon lieber I think the yankees rotation is far more proven and had better stats last year than the marlins. DaGreatOne
What happened to Jon Lieber and why didnt he make the rotation?
QuickGold
Leiber has an injury so he's out for a few weeks. He injured his groin a few weeks back. But the real key to Yanks rotation will obviously be El Duque's return
DurableTear
Isn't El Duque in Montreal with his brother or am I just plain stupid?
Guest Juanky
Isn't El Duque in Montreal with his brother or am I just plain stupid? He left Montreal, had his workouts around, and ended up being signed by the Yankees.

DaGreatOne
Lieber will be back, don't you worry. I'm just wondering because I read about the Osbourne guy out of nowhere in an Gammons article and thought maybe he messed up when he said the yankees 4th and 5th starters had questions in which he list Contreras and Osbourne. Did get injured again or has he pitched poorly?

Oh, yeah, I guess we are unfortunate to have 5 studs and a very solid starter to fill in while the 5th stud recovers from TJ.
tigersfan1
In order to make a list throughout the season of what I think Joe Torre is doing wrong ... Does it even matter? The Yankees are practically an all-star team, even a mistake by Torre won't be a big deal. I think you have some great points on the lineup though. BTW, I know this is minor, but what happened to Travis Lee? Did he get sent to the minors?
Guest Juanky
I thought he was hurt

BTW, I know this is minor, but what happened to Travis Lee? Did he get sent to the minors? Torre will lose the team several games and that sucks. And lee hurt his shoulder (I think), but he'll be back soon.
catchoftheday
i think after todays game we should start the Lou Pinella to the yanks rumor !!!
SorianoFanHFW
Mistake 3? Supposedly, Giambi reinjured his knee by playing 3 exhibition games on the astro turf...nice job torre, I'm sure we needed "the big bat" in those games. In all probability, such reinjury was inevitable and I have heard his knee will forever have arthritis.

B) I would have to say Beckett + Brown are even at this point, if not Beckett slightly better. C) Um, how is Contreras better than Penny? And finally, but most important..... Pierre is 10000000000000000000000000000 times better than Lofton. Sorry.

SorianoFanHFW
Let becket pitch a full season in the bigs before we start disrespecting a 200 game winner (well 198) with a 2.39 era last year who pitched MORE INNINGS. Enough said.
Special K
Let becket pitch a full season in the bigs before we start disrespecting a 200 game winner (well 198) with a 2.39 era last year who pitched MORE INNINGS. Enough said. Kevin Brown is the poster child for Mediocrity. And until he pitches a complete game on 3 days rest to beat the "best team in baseball" in the toughest stadium to play in in the world, to WIN the World Series, I'm gonna have to ask you to get off Josh's Nuts. Enough Said.
