The term "free speech" is inappropriately applied to mean that anyone can say anything, within reason. In fact it has nothing to do with it at all.

 

The only thing free speech guarantees is that you will not face reprisal or retribution as a result of reasonable comments made in a public forum. It is not free license to say anything to anyone anywhere ( i.e. the old and tired example of yelling fire in a crowded theatre -which is paraded out in front of every 1L in every law school in the country)

 

And remind me again, why is it an infrigement upon your right to free speech when you are no longer allowed to express your thought via privately held medium?

People like das and cyberlina cannot stand when people disagree with them. They locked a meaningful global warming topic because of that. In fact, it gets to the point where someone like cyberlina does not deal with the issue at hand and rather repeats a previous argument which was definitely untrue (like her claim that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere was kept in control by a carbon sink or something even though this is deemed irrelevant by the marked increase in CO2) and then gets offended when you do not accept something that is untrue.

 

I don't care what others think, if there's an issue to discuss, it should not be censored. Cyberlina and das blatantly support the stopping of speech they do not agree with. They can only do this free of hypocracy (sp) if they are against free speech. I am not.

I have said many times that it is ok to disagree, what is not ok is the fact that you push the subject to the point where there is no more to say. You have to learn that sometimes people will never agree with you. I will close a topic that I started when I feel it has reached that point. Grow up and take it like a man.
