April 21, 200422 yr I just have some questions: Are we talking about building a NEW stadium or simply refurbishing UM's stadium? If we were to move to the OB site, who would control concession, parking, luxury suits, etc.? Controlling that is the biggest part of the problem, that's precisely why we need a new park!!
April 21, 200422 yr Author thanks...I'd guess that the Marlins will reach an agreement to split the profits with the county and UM in a way that the team is largely favored, if not, there's really no sense to move there or whatever...

I've been trying to find out what the "deal" looks like today but to no avail. It would have to be substantially different than the last one because in the last offer from the City of Miami they took 100% of the naming rights $$$, 70% of the concessions (and chose the vendors as well) and all but $2 per car for parking for the approximately 3,000 cars they believed they could park on city owned land. The Marlins would have received zero from the cars parked on non-city property.

UM's Orange Bowl stadium is already getting an upgrade. I'm assuming this is a new stadium... I believe Samson said this was "in the Orange Bowl area" or "near the Orange Bowl" or something to that effect. I'm also led to believe that this is not the stadium that was initially proposed, where the Orange Bowl & baseball stadium would actually be connected and share an outfield wall... These issues are why some of us are concerned and not immediately jumping for joy here. They could get a brand new shiny stadium right next to Biscayne Bay with a retractable roof, gold-plated seats, free beer, and playboy bunnies for ushers, but if the marlins are still not getting a decent % of the revenues then what has really changed?
April 21, 200422 yr playboy bunnies for ushers Whoa - what will the Mermaids say about that? :thumbup

How about this scenario..... A nice Saturday in the early Fall..... The Canes draw 60K+ for a home game and then.... Whammo!!! The Fish draw 30K for a late-season game against the Braves that has playoff implications. The OB area will be scortched earth.

That's exactly what I'm worried about!! The essence here is not merely getting the stadium done, but getting it in a way that we receive the benefits that any other regular team would receive! Marlins 2003: the info. you posted is what I last heard, thanks....It seems that the politicos in Miami are trying to suck up the Marlins up to the last cent. If the new deal is just like that, there's no sense in building a new stadium. I think it's inevitable that we'll have to share SOME of our revenue with the City, after all, they're allocating money towards this project, but they shouldn't have a majority share, or this deal would be BS!
