sport? not a sport?

Featured Replies

is cheerleading a sport? (note: this refers to cheerleading competitions like the ones that are shown on ESPN2 from time to time, not cheering at a game)

sport: requires physical effort, requires practice and preparation

not: completely subjective

discuss

next up: dog shows

No. Cheerleading is competitive, but not a sport. It's a lot like figure skating. I'm not taking away from the physical effort or anything.

Man cheerleaders are cute though! :cool

Here in Utah, channels 50-52 are ESPN2-FoxSportsRockyMountain-ESPN. Now occasionally, they'll have women's college ball on all three. That's pretty rough.

But nothing's worse than when any of the three are showing CHEERLEADING. You crazy? Ain't no motherf***ing sport.

In-game cheerleading is a key part of the sport they're cheering. I don't know about the competitions though. There's still school pride at stake.

you've gotta be kidding me. Has anyone ever consider dog shows a sport. theres a bunch of people who think its a sport. thats why well discuss that tomorrow

LIke said above, cheerleading is a competition, but not a sport. I have a hard time calling anything that is decided by judging a sport, including boxing (although the good ones avoid the judges with knockouts).

Marlins Mermaid cheering- not a sport

REAL cheerleading- is a sport

It is very physical, requires hard work and talent...

Well by that definition, putting on a concert is a sport. Take it from someone who used to play a lot of shows, it requires everything you just listed.

Very Physical- Playing the guitar for 2-3 hours, running around the stage

Hard Work- See above, as well as unloading and setting up your gear. Not to mention travelling 3 hours to play for 2, etc.

Talent- Face it, you have to be good for people to come see you. You have to play, sing, and perform to a level that sets you apart from the rest.

Im not hating on cheerleading, I agree with Hugg. Its a very strenuous competition, but in my eyes, it's just not a sport.
