May 16, 200422 yr some more time in AA I dont know his line but in the first 4 innings, 10 runs were scored off Carolina not good
May 16, 200422 yr Trevor's line for tonight: 3 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO, 3 HR His ERA for the season is now at 4.60, record of 5-2
May 16, 200422 yr Author he has hardly been perfect this year anyway. no need to go there... if he wins 5 out of every 7 games, ill take it :thumbup
May 16, 200422 yr Bill Murphy has been better than Hutch so far this season, anyway. I'm surprised people haven't been talking about Murphy as much on this board, because he is definetly pitching well right now.
May 16, 200422 yr This reminds me of a knock-knock joke: Knock knock Who's there? Hutch. Hutch who? Geshundheit! :lolup Ahem, now back to our regularly scheduled thread . . . :whistle

I still wouldn't have done the deal, but Murphy looks like a good player and hopefully can help us in the future. so you would rather have nothing for him and just let him go? no, I think we could have easily signed Redman. We did not go out and make any huge acquisitions. We ended up (reportedly) under the target payroll number that Loria told Beinfest to keep it at. Our payroll would have been 2 million more with Redman instead of Oliver. That 2 million would have been well within reason for this team and well worth it, because Redman is 100 times better than Oliver.
May 16, 200422 yr Author but what do you do with AJ then? not saying I would rather have DO than Redman, but what would happen then?
May 16, 200422 yr but what do you do with AJ then? not saying I would rather have DO than Redman, but what would happen then? Well that's one luxury I would love to have if I were Jack. I would say probably Dontrelle would go to the pen.

May 16, 200422 yr and I thought I should add this too. I think Dontrelle would be terrific out of the pen, and would have been a big boost to to the pen if that were to have happened. Now were looking at DO going to the pen when AJ comes back and that does nothing for us, it may make the pen even worse.
May 16, 200422 yr Another Scenario. AJ comes back we've already got 5 solid starters, but our bullpen has sucked and we need a catcher, just like we do right now. We would've been able to shop Redman or Pavano to fill these spots. Now all we've got is Oliver who probably has negative trade value.
May 16, 200422 yr The thing was at the time Redman was traded the club was involved with Lee, Luiy, Lowell, Pudge, Encarnacion, etc. Payroll was an issue that they could not have risked an arbitrator awarding him $4M per year. Especially since Redman had shown signs of becoming a health risk after having to shut down in Detroit the year before and strugglign down the stretch for us. The absolute worst thing for us, a club with little revenue, is a high salary player on the DL. Not saying Oliver was the best choice, I remember the club made a strong run after Rick Reed, but he makes half as much as the club expected Redman to and no one knw he would suck this much.

Luis and Lowell had already been signed. Pudge and Lee were gone by then, and Encarnacion was as good as gone, because there was no reason to keep him around, and the A's were able to avoid arbitration with him so I see no reason we wouldn't have been able to do the same. So I'm not sure what you are talking about. When we traded Redman it was around December 20th. Pudge was officially gone on December 10th, Lowell and Luis were signed before December 10th and Lee was traded in November.

Now were looking at DO going to the pen when AJ comes back and that does nothing for us, it may make the pen even worse. Well DO might perform well in the bullpen since he usually starts off well in games pitching solid in the 1st and 2nd innings but its after that he usually struggles.
May 16, 200422 yr he has hardly been perfect this year anyway. Just bitter because his Spurs lost to the Lake show... I have said this for a while, Hutch needs another year before we can really evaluate him. I am not totally sold on him - yet.
