PBMarlin
Red is the MVP of last night's game for sure. Marlins walk away with win Redmond draws free pass with bases loaded in the 10th By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com MIAMI -- All the aches and pains were worth it for catcher Mike Redmond on Friday night. In a game in which he took a hard foul ball off his right shoulder, and a few more tips to his legs and arms, Redmond drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the 10th inning to lift the Marlins to a 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks before 17,368 at Pro Player Stadium. "It's just the life of a catcher," said Redmond, who doubled-over in pain after being struck squarely on the shoulder in the fifth inning by Scott Hairston's foul ball. "When you're 9 years old and say you want to be a catcher, this is what you sign up for. This was a big win for us." Juan Pierre led off the 10th with a single off Brian Bruney, and with one out, the speedster stole second. Miguel Cabrera was intentionally walked, and Bruney fell deeper into a hole by walking Abraham Nunez. Never regaining command of the strike zone, Bruney fell behind Redmond 3-1, before missing on ball four. As Pierre crossed home, the Marlins won for the second straight night, and remained a half-game behind the Phillies in the NL East. Inconsistent of late, the Marlins evened their homestand at 2-2. They hadn't won two in a row at home since winning four straight from April 8-11. Redmond had three RBIs on the night, and with the bases full this season he is now 2-for-2 with seven RBIs. Plus, it was not mentioned Redmond threw out Hairston in the 5th, right after he took the foul ball to the shoulder. Can you imagine what would have happened in the 10th if Castro would have come in to replace Redmond? Is anyone not convinced Red has earned the starting job for the rest of the season? Flamarlins3
I wish he could start every day but I definitely want to see him in the lineup more often. I think the pitchers like him a little bit better too
Hotcorner
yeah I agree. no question right now Red's the starter & Castro's the backup. Castro will still have to get some playing time because Mike can't start many games in a row, but as long as he's got the energy, he should be in the lineup. I had an awful feeling when he took that ball in the shoulder....
Accord
Castro is starting today :thumbdown . There's no way Red would not be starting today unless something was wrong, he probably woke up with a sore shoulder.

He cannot handle the load

FishFanPR
exactly, we know he's not an everyday catcher, but what about if Jack only starts Castro every 3 games? that seems reasonable enough.
